What do you think are the reasons behind Beijing denying the sale of Hummer to a Chinese company?

Asked by ragingloli (52204points) February 25th, 2010

As you all know, the sale of the Hummer marque has failed (good riddance, nothing of value was lost), apparently because the Chinese Government did not authorise the transaction.
The stated reason for this was the marque’s contraproductivity towards the People’s Republic’s efforts to combat environmental pollution. Do you think this is the real or only reason, or is there more to it?
Go ahead and speculate to your heart’s content.

Since the Chinese government obviously could care less about their environmental pollution, I would say there must be more to it.

don’t believe anything the media or politicians tell you. According to CCTV9, the Sichuan based company that was supposedly doing the deal with GM for it’s HUMMER division, did not have all the necessary paperwork filed on time. I’ve lived in Chongqing for 7 years and one thing that I have learned is that there is no such thing as a “China expert”.
