When you see a penny catcher (put a penny in, or take one out if you need it) at a convenience store, are you more likely to take out more pennies than you put in, or put more in than you ever take out?

You have to be honest! When all is averaged out, do you give more than you take?

I think I’m 0.01 in the negative.

LOL…Feeling guilty are you?

I never use those things, it’s been years, and the time I did, I put a penny in because I didn’t want the change.

I probably take more than I give. I usually drop my penny in if I buy something that end in 99 cents and get a stray penny at the end, but if I get a whole handful of change, I don’t pick out the pennies, I just drop it all in my pocket.

No, I don’t feel guilty! It’s just something I think of every time I donate, and have been meaning to ask.
I’m pretty sure I put more in, in the end, than I take out. @buckyboy28 If I have a whole bunch of change in my hand, I DO pick the silver out, and donate the pennies….)

I usually pay by credit or debit card. Love swooshing the plastic. I handle cash rarely. I have to admit when I do pay cash and get change back I am more likely to dump it into one of those tins for some charity.

I’ve probably given more than I’ve taken. If I get one or two cents back as change, into the container they go.

I never take pennies out of those, but I never put any in, either.

I stay away from them – that sort of free market scares me

ccrow's avatar

I generally ignore them.

Supacase's avatar

I can’t recall ever taking, but I do drop pennies I receive as change in there.

Actually, I do remember the cashier taking pennies out of it on my behalf so she wouldn’t have to do too much math.

davidbetterman's avatar

I take, I give. I don’t count how much I have done this over the years. Worrying about this is completely anal.

@Supacase I don’t think it has to do with doing too much math! If a purchase is #.41, and you give her .50, she just needs to hand you back a dime, instead of a nickle and four pennies. As a customer I’d prefer not to get pennies. They are a nuisance.

davidbetterman's avatar

What is #.41?
Is that like 42?

lazydaisy's avatar

I put in way more pennies than I take.

YoH's avatar

I put in. Putting in makes cents to me.

Val123's avatar

@davidbetterman That means it’s heavier than 42!
