In peoples' experiences, how long does it take for police to find suspects?

Asked by omfgTALIjustIMDu (9288points) January 22nd, 2007
My father was just held-up at gun-point outside our house. Police came and conducted an investigation about 45 minutes ago. How long, in peoples' experiences, will it most likely take for them to find the suspect?

I have read that if a crime is not solved within the first 48 hours, the odds of someone being arrested go down exponentially.

sjg is right, but I am concerned about your dad. Was he hurt? Is he OK? How scary. (Where do you live?)

My dad is physically unhurt though we are all a bit shaken up. We live on a cul-de-sac in a rather quiet neighborhood, so it's rather disconcerting not just for us but for neighbors too.

I cannot imagine, but glad that your dad is unharmed...

UPDATE: the guy was just put in jail for 12 years.
