What's a good way to gain more mass in your arms?

Asked by allergictoeverything (105points) February 28th, 2010

I’m a 21 year old male, and I’ve been working out and dieting recently, and I’d have to say I’ve shed quite a few pounds. Howeverrr, with the fat that I’ve lost, my arms look unproportionally scrawnier than the rest of my body. Even after I lift weights, my arms just look more toned; they don’t actually look bigger. Does anyone of a good way for me to gain muscle mass in my arms?

use weights that are much more heavy than the ones you are using now when working on your biceps, triceps and forearms.

lots of repetitions with light weights will burn fat and tone, less repetitions with more weight will increase mass, however it will be a couple of months before you see any results.

an alternative method to increase the mass in your arms would be to swing them about at close to the speed of light.

As Poisenedantidote suggested, heavier weights with less repetitions is likely your best available plan. I also considered advising a higher calorie intake as this would offer more weight with which to build muscle but i’m uncertain of how much this would affect the arms rather than the torso.

I would also second the alternative method and add to be sure not to actually reach the speed of light as this will prove hugely counter productive to your goals. Great if you’re dieting though.

You need to develop all of your arm muscles. Many people just work on biceps. Look at some of the different dumbbell options that are illustrated in many body-building forums. There are no shortcuts – it takes time, perseverance and care – you don’t want an injury to slow you down.

1. as said before: heavier weights with less repetitions!
2. take some proteins directly after your training sessions (not to much – ask at your pharmacy for a good product)
3. try this workout
4. 3–4 sessions a week

never ever do anabolic steroids or anything like that !!!

have fun :-)

according to Einstein mass increases with velocity, so perhaps you could try accelerating your arms?

Do it the way they do in prison (ever see how buff those guys get?) Follow the advice above about working out with heavy weights.

Be sure to eat plenty of starches (potatoes, bread, rice) The starches is the secret ingredient to getting buff arms.

Powerplates are very effective as they accelerate the rate at which your muscles contract. Try this 2–3 times a week.

VARY your workout, so try different exercises with increasing mass every week. Heavy weights + low reps is good, but repeat at least 4–5 times.

Eat more lean protein, especially after a work-out.

And starches yes, but stick to brown rice, brown bread, etc. because white starch turns to sugar quickly and is effectively a poison for your muscles.

GOOD LUCK!
