What to do about severe eye burning sensation?

Asked by ZEPHYRA (21750points) March 1st, 2010

I really don’t know what to make of this problem. I am okay and then suddenly out of the blue, my eyes begin to water, burn unbearably, become red and I have to stop wherever I am, pull over if I am driving and dab a bit of water on the eyes(I always carry a bottle of water and Kleenex with me). The moment the water is dabbed on, like magic, the red, itching, burning eyes become better and I can go on. What can I do? I have tried anti-allergic drops and other kinds of eye drops but nothing works. I has become a serious problem! Help!

Get some of that eye stuff for them. It usually works for me. Especially when I have pink eye. (which i actually enjoy having by the way because it gets me out of unwanted situations)

Sounds like allergies! You also may have developed a sensitivity to chemicals. We have lots of chemicals here at work and I have seen my workers all of a sudden have similar reactions to certain chemicals. Go see your doc if this is an ongoing problem for you!

I don’t know if you are a guy or girl, and maybe it doesn’t matter – but could it be eye makeup? Or something that you are putting on your skin or washing hair with?

It could also be dry eye syndrome
Go to the doctor.

Nobody is going to be able to diagnose this online, so you really should go to your optometrist (since they are the experts on the eye).

Out of curiosity, does this only happen when you’re doing certain activities (driving) or certain times of the day? Also what eye drops have you tried?

I would go to doctor.. My doctor tells me to NEVER. .. ignore what your body is screaming.
