Why is eyebrow plucking preferable to trimming by cutting?

Is there a reason why some people (mainly women) pluck their eyebrows rather than getting them trimmed (like a haircut)?

I think it’s a different effect. Plucking reshapes the brow. Trimming would be much less effective at that, especially since most plucking is on the lower portion.
(Unless you’re Andy Rooney. If you’re Andy Rooney, for God’s sake, trim those suckers!!)
I pluck them so I don’t have to worry about it as often. Plus, shaving brings more stubble- not the most attractive look for some.
Hair grows back slower when plucked.
Cutting would reduce the length of the eyebrow hairs, making the brow look less full. Also, instead of laying flat, shorter brow hairs would stand up straight – like having two little mohawks on your face.
However, plucking is for reshaping the brow, not necessarily to make all the hair shorter or less full. I guess you could still shave an arch into your brows, but (1) that means getting near your eye with scissors or a razor, and (2) eyebrow stubble. Eww.
@syz I think Andy needs to mow those suckers!
I pluck mine for shaping my brows
@laureth hehe, maybe I’ll opt for the mohawk look next time:))
The only place a trimmer would really be useful is the unibrow, everything else is too hard to get to or too easy to mess up. There is also a noticeable difference when the hair grows back from shaving than from plucking.
“The hair shaft tapers at the end. ‘When you shave it, you’re crossing the midshaft, so it seems like it’s thicker and more coarse,’ explains Dr. Robin Ashinoff, director of cosmetic dermatology at Hackensack University Medical Center. ‘But it’s not.’” (http://www.newsweek.com/id/78014)
So basically the hair keeps growing, and the middles are thicker than the ends and thus more visible.
