What's the best time to plant tomatos in the San Francisco Bay Area?
Last year I planted my first round of tomatoes before the frost, and the second round after it was too late. What should I look for this year? Oh, and I live in the South Bay.

According to this article, April is the right time.
The article also has some varieties that do well in the Bay Area.
I have had good luck using Wall of Waters. It’s a circular ring of hollow plastic tubes that you arrange around the transplant and fill with water. The water protects the transplant when temperatures drop below freezing. Burpee and Mellingers both carry them. I’v planted early and they protected the plant down to 25 degress F.
Sounds like your down by Daily City or are you closer to Fremont or san jose?
Daily city has fog so you wait until June, fremont is june as well but san jose is july. But if your using seed then back up 6 weeks and plant the seeds and add plastic on them to trap heat for germination.
If you don’t yet have the book Golden Gate Gardening, you should check it out! It includes maps of the Bay Area microclimates, and planting/harvesting schedules depending on which microclimate you live in (primarily depending on ratio of sun and fog). It’s my gardening bible.
I am out in the vally, but we get to have tomatoes all year long.
