Today, with Senator Bunning’s vote, unemployment benefits will be cut off to many Americans. Senator Bunning said, “we cannot pay for it!” (paraphrased)
My question to Senator Bunning, where were you when George W Bush was spending more money than all the other Presidents combined?
What are your thoughts about the Republican’s vote today?

Uhm…it sucks. I’ll leave the name calling and venting up to other answers lol.
I love it when people with jobs complain that unemployment isn’t an issue for them.
I can understand where he’s coming from, but the hypocrisy makes it too much.
Fuck that guy.
He’s a mean, sour old man! Making his last stand thinking it’s gonna have lasting impact. Go, MF! Go!
Typical hypocrite. “Compassionate conservatism” my ass.
They can’t pay for it? Fuck that. I hate people who tell us to tighten our belts when they unbuckle theirs.
Well let’s see….As of February 12th, 2010 I found myself out of work for the first time in my life. The program funding just wore out. I’ve yet to receive my unemployment benefits but here is my solution. If we all learn to adjust the way that we live then we can save this country.
If that jackass wants to kill unemployment benefits for most of America then how about we take half of his salary to fund my program. Then I am willing to take a 20K a year cut to pay in to the unemployment benefits so people can continue to live without having to rob their neighbor.
Jim Bunning can kiss my white ass.
The thing is, last I heard, not even other republicans were supporting what Senator Bunning is doing. They may agree with it, but not one has stepped forward in support. At least they have the brains not go along with Senator Bunning, because, not only do I think that this legislation that he is blocking is a good thing, but politically, he is hurting his own party. Even though no other republicans publicly support him, he is a republican senator, and his actions reflect on the party as a whole, whether the party wants it or not. This is a great thing for the democrats to show how the reason that they haven’t accomplished what they wanted isn’t because they are inept, but because the republicans have been blocking all their legislation. When the republicans are going to point out that the democrats accomplished next to nothing, then the democrats can use this to pin the blame back on the republicans.
I OBJECT.
no, i really don’t, but i think what he’s doing is ridiculous.
Grandstanding, attention-seeking. I too heard on the radio last night that his Republican
colleagues aren’t even taking an interest in this. They’re just planning to vote against it.
This is slightly heartening, given their record of fuck-up-Obama-at-any-cost policies.
All fed $$$ to his state should be immidiatly stopped, till it can be showen that they contribute just as much as they get, or till they impeech or remove his ol’ sorry ass!
better yet, give the people emergency powers to publically execute his his ass!
People are relying on that money and he wants to take it away. Very sad.
Crap, I hate to have to say this because I certainly don’t wan to appear to be supporting the Republicans. But, the issue actually seems to be about the unanimous consent process in the Senate, and Bunning’s objection to procedure. Bunning didn’t want there to be a rubber stamp vote without debate. People have been misapplying the term filibuster” to his action, suggesting that he was standing in the way of a vote for funding unemployment benefits. C’mon, I know there are at least a few out there who know what a filibuster is, and that a single man cannot stand in the way of the majority. Point of fact: Bunning was objecting to passing a bill that proposed to spend money without a vote—that’s how “unanimous consent” works.
Certainly those of us on the left must admit that we shouldn’t be spending money without an “up or down vote” of the members of Congress.
Please don’t attack me. My favorite person in Congress is Bernie Sanders! I’m just trying to be fair.
@davidk—Fair? Politics is hatred, deceit and hypocrisy.
That decision should be made by the unemployed. I have been so since august. The company keeps sayin we will call you back. I am one of about 25 from the company I work for. I have worked other part time jobs during this time, but I will have to start a completely new career if the company goes under. Not easy specially when there is no money commin in, and you have kids in elementary school and highschool. It is time to make some change, but to take away unemployment seem very dangerous.
If they take it away I am going to rob Jim’s house first.
