Why does my wet suit give me a friction burn?

Asked by asawilliams (368points) March 2nd, 2010

I have an O’Neil Epic wet suit. A couple of times when I have worn itt surfing I get these really bad friction burns on the back of my neck. What is causing this? Could it be my wet suit or the way that I might be wearing it?

How many ways are there to wear a wet suit? I’m sorry, I have all kinds of dirty thoughts instead of useful answers.

Have you tried wearing some of the waterproof Chaff stuff? I know it works I just can’t remember the name of it….I think it is called ShammyBUTTer.

Did you have this problem from Day 1? Have you used other neoprene items without problem? Experts believe that neoprene has the potential to cause possible allergic-type skin reactions.

However, if you believe that you’re skin is not reacting to neoprene, check the stitching, it may be protruding and rubbing against your skin.

I’m going to go out on a limb….Friction?

Put some vaseline on the area next time before zipping up.

If he were allergic to neoprene, he’d have evidence of a reaction all over his body not just at his neck…
