Ladies, at what age did you start to cover up the grey?

I have dark, brown hair and am starting to get a bit grey at the temples (when my hair is pulled back, you can see it). I’m debating on whether to color it or not.

I have been lucky and still have only silver threads among the gold. My daughter is using a brown rinse with some highlights.
Personally I love the way my hair looks, and it matches my face. I have seen women with dye jobs who look dreadful. And I have friends who spend big bucks at the beauty salon for tipping, streaking and coloring.
Why not try a non-permanent rinse?
I found my first grey the other day! I think when my color goes, I’ll just let it go. My mother doesn’t color her hair and it actually looks beautiful. I hope I’m as lucky. She had very dark hair and got a pretty silver streak right in front around age 50, which has now expanded.
My mother, who is now 95, has shiny white hair and it is beautiful. The fact that she still has lots of it (thick, wavy and a nice hair cut) plus gorgeous bone structure helps.
I have been coloring my hair so long that I’ve never seen the gray. I guess it’s pretty gray now when it grows out a bit, but I’m so old now I’m to blind to see it! (my grown kids tell me.)
I’ve had gray strays for 10 years. I’ve never colored my hair to cover them, but I have colored my hair because I was bored with my current look. Right, now I have a lot of grays on the top of my head, but I don’t mind because I don’t see them that much. My husband does, though. He plucks them out sometimes before I know what he’s up to. A struggle ensues…
In my thirties.You reminded me to do that soon.I do wish it was all silver.I think it’s interesting and like the way it looks on most people.
I don’t think I shall. I have gray now and I like it- it’s shiny. I’m more surprised that I’ve managed to stay alive long enough to get some grays!
I got my first grays in high school, and started coloring it in my mid-20s. My grandmother was completely gray by 20, so I blame her. :)
I’ve coloured my hair for years because I like it auburn. I let the colour go last month and just saw my first greys. They’re at my temples too, a couple on each side.
@jealoustome
what the hell, I did that like once. Maybe twice.
it’s funny because unless i’m mistaken, nobody that answered this question so far has put their age (or the age they were when they started coloring).
i’m 43, and i started doing highlights when i was about 35. then as the sparklies got more numerous, dark roots growing out too fast and highlighting got too expensive, i started dying (single process) my hair a golden, reddish blonde. i get it done at the salon so it’s not too blonde or too brassy. i think getting it done professionally is also helpful because that keeps me getting it trimmed on a regular basis, so it’s always looking neat.
found my first gray hair on my 30 th birthday. That kind of freaked me out, but I didn’t start coloring until I was about 35. Mostly because my natural color was too dark for my complection. It all depends on how you feel about yourself so go with what feels right
I never did. I am a very natural person. I don’t wear make-up, and I don’t shave.
@YARNLADY I am a very natural person. I don’t wear make-up, and I don’t shave.
We have something in common. I don’t wear makeup and I don’t shave. ;)
I’m 40. The 4 or 5 white hairs I have now showed up in the last year. I’m about to colour again and the rest of the roots are deepest brown, as they’ve always been! Now, if I had Emmylou Harris‘s hairdresser, I wouldn’t bother. It helps to be stunning, doesn’t it? Well, that and a good hairdresser and PhotoShop.
My gray is my red badge of courage, I am proud of it and wouldn’t dream of trying to hide it. George Clooney isn’t hiding his nor Brad Pitt.
Started at age 21 and has not stopped. I have to dye my hair every three weeks to keep the roots away! I hate it. Just too chicken-chit to go grey. I started dying my hair at age 30.
