Can you learn how to sing?
I have always wanted to sing. I think I have an OK voice but I think I am “tone deaf”. Not sure. I want to sing blues and jazz. Just for fun of course. Can you be taught how to sing or not?

Yes and if you can afford to do lessons do them , find a good teacher.
Record yourself (try and get a decent recording quality device sounds much better) if you can it is a great way to get a very good ideal of how you REALLY sound and not what you think you sound like.
If your not going to do lessons or can’t afford to…Do some youtube stuff and focus on being in key and pitch, personally I find you can have a great voice but if ain’t tune with the music at all well that kinda screws it all up. Work on hearing yourself and the music get in tune first, then worry about changing your style, tone of voice etc…
Just my opinion.
Probably, but all my attempts have been thwarted by projectiles…mostly cabbages, tomatoes and the occasional meatloaf.Good luck and have fun:))
Yes, you can be taught how to sing. Very few people are actually tone deaf. Most people who think they are only think so because they were told so at a young age by someone in authority, which is sad.
@stump thanks so true. My mom told me I was tone deaf. Thanks for your answer. I realized too late this question has just recently been asked. Apologies. I will read up on that one. @lucillelucillelucille is the medication kicking in? Hope so.
not me…don’t even sing in the shower! it is that bad! just move my lips on Happy Birthday!
Yes, more than 95% of all people who are not tone deaf can.
@Just_Justine I asked the same question a while ago, I started little over a year ago just wanting to sing tunes I like and things I have written.
http://www.fluther.com/disc/67060/can-you-learn-to-sing/ I think a lot of IT is how much you put into, I have gotten better I feel but if I was far more disciplined, effort and practice I’d be much more improved….you get what put into it. Too bad I can’t live by my own words lol! :)
I’m totally backing you up, so I better hear some music from you ok? :D
If you can hear a tune, and you can hear the difference between two different notes (even if they’re the wrong notes) then you’re not clinically tone deaf. And if you’re not clinically tone deaf then you can learn to sing. The rest is learning enough control of your voice to hit the right notes, and learning to breathe properly to get enough power in your voice. These just come with practise, and (if necessary) some teaching for basic techniques.
Yes, everyone has a voice, and the ability to better that voice is available to all, with proper practice.
You can improve what you have with training. Training will not give you pure talent.
@mattbrowne loll..but, who would want to hear it? speaking for myself!
