What is this video game?

A while ago, my coworker described a game that consisted of growing plants on various planets with some old Asteroid style gameplay. I’m pretty sure it was either on Steam or Xbox Live, but I don’t quite remember the name. I was going to ask him about it today, but he called off sick. Any ideas what this game could be?

The only thing that comes to mind is Spore. However, in it you “grow” species, not plants. Hmmm…
