Suppose from this day forth, you can only listen to music sung by a male or female. I am interested in knowing if males would pick females, and females would pick males. I think both would pick female vocals, but that’s just based on my opinion and the people that I know. If you care to weigh in on this please state your gender and if you would choose male or female vocals.
songs that do not contain any lyrics are allowed and for the purpose of this question, songs which contain both male and female vocals are not allowed

I would listen to Johnny Cash or Caleb Followill from Kings of Leon.
I’m a female.
I only listen to male vocals, because it sounds much better IMO, so I’d go for male :)
I don’t really listen to female artists, so I’d definitely say male.
I’ll narrow it down to just listening to Jeff Buckley.
mmm.
Beatles, Doors, Stones, Steely Dan.
I would listen to Male voices, simply because that is the music I enjoy.
How about if that singer was a Transexual?
But probably Male. Led Zeppelin rocks!
Male, but it would hurt me to have to choose.
Khadja Nin, Sade Adu, P J Harvey. Portishead, Morcheeba..
I’d listen to male vocals
@Ansible1 yes I fall into that category, I suppose as far as biological sex goes
Probably male vocalists but I’d sure as hell miss some of the female variety. A lot.
On surveys, it says “Sex: M F”
I usually have to M, though I prefer to F.
I like to sing along, and so I’d have to pick male as it’s closer to my range.
Males, simply because that’s almost all of the vocals in the musical genres I listen to.
I would choose female vocalists. (However, the thought of limiting my musical choices like that makes my skin crawl.)
I am female.
I think this is a good question. I have often wondered this myself. Almost everyone I know has the majority of the music in their collections, sung by the same gender as they are. I, too, have often wondered why this is.
I’d have to pick male even though I’m female. I cut my teeth on Robert Plant and David Bowie. There are some great female vocalists out there, but the majority are male and by neccessity that would remove the greater majority of the music to which I listen.
I think I’d pick female.. Im female. And I think mainly bc I love to sing myself and it’s easier for me to sing something that I heard a female sing then to sing something that a male sings. Plus there are a few high notes (Im a soprano) that I find really beautifull, and I also find them easier to sing then lower notes bc Im a soprano. And I believe more females sing higher then males. Example; Justin Timberlake (cry me a river for example) sings real high tones beautifully, but I prefer Tiesto- Just Breathe. But Justing is like an exeption in males and deep voices. And also there are a few combinations of high tones that I find beautifull like singing A Capella, and other stuff, and I find that women can make more subtle transitions in notes, like Mariah Carey or Celine Dion. Sorry if Im being vague its hard to write down without being able to make any example noises!
I’d never be able to give up my Nina Simone, Joni Mitchell, and Billie Holiday. So, sultry females all the way for this female.
I’d listen to male vocals, as the majority of my favourites are male. However, I’d be very sad about not being able to listen to Patti Smith & some of the aforementioned
i’m female
According to recent tallies, 70% of my music features female vocals, 25% features male, 5% features both about equally and the remaining is instrumental. This does not count classical, but since most of my music is sung by female artists, that is what I am going to go with. :)
I’m female, and I’d definitely pick female voices. All my favourite artists are female, and I simply couldn’t cope with only music that was difficult for me to sing along to.
Most of the great bands are male, so I would go with that. The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, The Who, Jimi Hendrix, CCR. Plus, if you needed to hear something that sounds like a female voice, there are always The Bee Gees.
I’m female and I would pick female singers. I do listen to a mix of both genders, but I generally like female singers a lot more.
Since I’d guesstimate that less than 5% of my music collection was performed by female vocalists, I would pick male. I am male. Rock is my favorite, and I like heavier music, so even though I can greatly appreciate many female artists, there is very little harder edged music sung by females. There are however a fair number of female artists I would miss listening to.
I would hate to have to choose, but most of my favourite music has male vocalists, so that’s what I would pick.
