How would you handle this situation?

Asked by john65pennington (29273points) March 8th, 2010

You are hired part-time to help with taking the census. your job is to walk door to door and visibly check and have each person living there complete the census form. you knock on the door of suspected illegal immigrants. a child answers the door and the adults run out the back door. whats your next move?

Go to the next house.

Anyone doing this job has to know their limitations. You can’t force people to fill out the census, and you can’t force those who do fill them out to fill them out correctly.

track them down..and give them a big HUG!

Duct tape the child to the door, run through the house after the family screaming “GREENCARD! GREENCARD!”

You could return later with another census taker and each of you take an exit. Or report it to your supervisor.

You don’t know why they’re heading for the door. You let them go because you don’t know the situation you’re getting into. The census bureau is not ICE.

Move on to the next house. I would never turn an ‘illegal immigrant’ in.

Offer them some cake. We all love cake.

And pie.

I recognize that my job is called “census-taker” and not “border-patrol”. Thus, i close the door and move on. Eight bucks an hour part time is not enough incentive to get into that kind of paperwork.

Tell the kid,to tell the adults, that you can be bribed, with some good home cooked tacos.

I make a note and go to the next house.
