For a massage therapist, what's the difference between CMT and LMT?

Asked by occ (4179points) January 25th, 2007
am looking for a massage therapist in San Francisco...on the list of providers approved by my health care, some of them have LMT after their names, and some have CMT. Anyone know what the difference is? Is one a higher level of certification?

LMT is licensed by the state and certified is national. I would check out the school that therapist graduated from and see what their bona fides are. Some states don't require licensing.. I know that NY does.
