Aoccdrnig to a rscheearch at an Elingsh uinervtisy, it deosn’t mttaer in waht oredr the ltteers in a wrod are, the olny iprmoetnt tihng is taht frist and lsat ltteer is at the rghit pclae. The rset can be a toatl mses and you can sitll raed it wouthit porbelm. Tihs is bcuseae we do not raed ervey lteter by it slef but the wrod as a wlohe. ceehiro.
I always thought it was neat.
Thank-you!
So you wanted appropriate syntax/punctuation/grammar?
This is awesome!!
@rangerr
Yep, and I just wanted to prove that theory wrong. You’ll notice that the first and last letters were the only thing that was rearranged… and they still got it.
That’s so bizarre. I’ve seen the ones where the first and last letters are preserved, but I read this one pretty quickly even with the letters completely jumbled.
The we don’t read every letter by its self, but the word as a whole thing is still proved true, though.
@DominicX There are only 3 words in there that go beyond 5 letters. It’s not like they’re vastly complex sentences. Even if there is one word you can’t figure out, the entire rest of the sentence is easy enough to understand that you can ___ in the _____. See what I did there.
I have sudden empathy for people with dyslexia.
It’s also a perfect illustration of meaning being a separate agent from the medium used to express it
The medium is never the message.
I feel stupid because I had to look at the answers to understand it, yet I love language and usually get these things right.
I’ve always believed phonics is the dumbest way to teach reading. I learned to read at the age of three by the whole word method.
@YARNLADY I learned by TV, record playing read along books, and family teaching me how… also by 3…
I assumed that it was Gaelic or something equally offbeat, and thus didn’t bother reading it until I saw the comments. :D
The debate amongst professionals on how humans understand and process language is currently quite interesting as evidence has been presented and later discredited on so many occasions that many are now beginning to invest their trust in a hybrid theory being the most valid perspective. That is, humans comprehend language by using a variety of mental resources rather than by adhering to a select few principles. I believe this is also applicable to this ‘word jumbling’ concept but I would require some background reading before making a credible statement. My apologies.

@YARNLADY “I’ve always believed phonics is the dumbest way to teach reading. I learned to read at the age of three by the whole word method.” Sight words is how I learned also, but my whole world opened up when I took a phonics class in 6th grade. Maybe there’s room for both.

Nope. Takes me ages to read this. And For @ucme I have no clue. up the shut/thus fuck sad twat/tawt/watt ya
It’s nonsense.
You got that right utter nonsense. Just flipped the format a little.
@YARNLADY, Here is someone who had the right idea when it comes to phonics. He maintained that our convoluted English with all the exceptions etc. was responsible for so many people being illiterate. It also contributed to homlessness, and crime. I think he had a point. A fascinating man, and one who died too soon. http://www.nytimes.com/2009/08/30/us/30rondthaler.html
