I swear, Spring feels like prozac. What are some other natural anti-depressants?

Asked by Jude (32204points) March 11th, 2010

Exercising and the nice, Spring weather, they’re both pulling me out of my funk.

I was lacking motivation, but, the last few days, the weather has been really nice and Spring-ish. Now, I have tons of energy. :)

Exercising. Seriously. Although it is hard to exercise when you are deeply depressed, if you can manage it it really does help.

That and being with friends you enjoy.

Shedding the burden of a bull-shit relationship.

janbb's avatar

Oh, I agree @jjmah! I’ve just been feeling so happy and pumped about life this week!

Spring Break starting tomorrow is also making me high.

Realizing you look fabulous in that super cute dress you’re trying on even though you thought you would look like crap in it.

tinyfaery's avatar

Good sex.

janbb's avatar

Having great Fluther-friends.

Jude's avatar

@marinelife I’‘m home for a quick lunch and I have this song playing. Makes me happy.

Also, for me, cleaning like mofo works.

My kitteh just found a big patch of sunlight and is sprawling out. Ah, Spring. :)

Jude's avatar

Fresh flowers, as well. I lurve me some fresh flowers in a vase on the kitchen table. And, that smell of Spring. Ahhhh..

marinelife's avatar

@jjmah Definitely on the flowers! Iam listening to the Lemon Drops I Live in the Springtime.

wilma's avatar

Going to bed knowing that my sheets hung on the line in the fresh air and sunshine today.
Having a crush on someone. maybe even a fluther

marinelife's avatar

@ccrow What a beauty and too true. My dogs can lift me up when I am really down. Just their antics are brightening of the spirits.

ccrow's avatar

@marinelife She was a pup when my mom was dying.. I called her my little anti-depressant.

lucillelucillelucille's avatar

Getting outside to see all the birds that migrated back do it for me and getting my garden ready makes me very happy :) Yay,flowers! lol

Jude's avatar

My boy at lunch.

@lucillelucillelucille Girl, it doesn’t take much (flowers). ;-)

Likeradar's avatar

@jjmah You just inspired me to get some tulips. :)

Jude's avatar

Yay! :)

It’s amazing how much spring can do. I’m really lucky, I’ve been having a really bad week but I just step outside and feel better about everything. If this had happened a month ago when it was negative one billion degrees and everything was still shitty, I’d have gone bonkers. I’m finally crawling out of my winter cave…

Music and my girlfriend are my anti-depressants. They’re the only things that can bring me back to times when things were better, since they’re both so often linked to the moments where I felt good about myself.

davidbetterman's avatar

Camping out in the mountains. Fresh air, clean water…eating freshly caught trout…

Jude's avatar

From lunch: My other boy in the front living room window with his back to the warm sunshine. And, my Hibiscus is doing great. Yay, sun!

MissAnthrope's avatar

Spring for sure.. dead plants, bare trees, and cold, cloudy days are kind of depressing. I love it when it’s sunny, warming up, the trees are blooming, there are flowers everywhere, the birds are singing.. yay for spring!!

Other things.. coffee, driving with good tunes on a sunny day, exercise, music, having someone amazing who appreciates me, playing music or singing with other people.

marinelife's avatar

Now, I have been inspired to put on Vivaldi’s L’Estro Armonico, which epitomizes spring for me.

Jude's avatar

@MissAnthrope I love belting it out (singing). I do it when alone, so, no one has to hear me. I don’t care how off-key I sound, I give it my freaking all. Feels good.

MissAnthrope's avatar

@jjmah – I love being in the car by myself for that very reason. :)

Seeing Jason Varitek catching in the bullpen before a Red Sox game. Be still my heart.

holden's avatar

Sun and wildflowers. And the daytime sky, after a rain shower.

marinelife's avatar

@autumn43 baseball does it for me too! And Jason Varitek is certainly one to set the sap rising.

janbb's avatar

A long walk and talk with my “best” friend. We try to do it several times a week.

Ria777's avatar

it demeans the things that make us happy to compare them with SSRI’s like Prozac.

jeffgoldblumsprivatefacilities's avatar

While sipping some coffee and watching the sun come up this morning, I saw a young fox running around, care-free. I love spring!

holden's avatar

Also, orgasms through intercourse.

Adirondackwannabe's avatar

lilacs in bloom.

tinyfaery's avatar

I feel a bit jealous that I don’t get a spring transition. In L.A. there are always flowers blooming and the sun shines all year round.

Adirondackwannabe's avatar

I bet you weren’t jealous when we were shoveling 2 feet of snow.

Jude's avatar

I still want to marry @jeffgoldblumsprivatefacilities. My kinda jelly. ;-)

Adirondackwannabe's avatar

It does make spring feel really sweet. I like the four seasons.

janbb's avatar

Yes, it’s the contrast between this hard, hard winter and the loveliness now that’s making this Spring so sweet.

holden's avatar

@Ria777 Man, have you ever been on Prozac?

janbb's avatar

Ooh, can we have another Fluther wedding; the last one was so cool!

Jude's avatar

@janbb Let’s do it. :) Must say, he’s a wee Fluther crush of mine. His lurve of music, the cool way that he sees things (in life), and the fact that he’s much cuter than Matt Damon. How could I not? ;-)

janbb's avatar

@jjmah But wouldn’t your lady have something to say about it? Or are we allowed to have a Fluther spouse and a real life partner?

Jude's avatar

@janbb Fluther spouse, of course.

janbb's avatar

Well then, I guess a Mazel Tov™ might be in order for me some day, too.

jeffgoldblumsprivatefacilities's avatar

<blushes> @jjmah, I’d be honored. :)

partyparty's avatar

Taking my dogs for long walks, watching them playing together, spending time in my greenhouse growing my flowers for summer. Ahhhhh…... I feel relaxed already

jonsblond's avatar

Opening the windows at night and getting to hear the coyote again.

@davidbetterman I like how you think! I’m ready to go camping now that the weather is getting nice. :)

CMaz's avatar

I have been laughing lately more then usual.
Thanks to you all.

So I have to put Fluther on the list.

And, running helps too. ;-)

Jude's avatar

@janbb You can have dpworkin. ;-)

Ria777's avatar

@holden: I don’t want to re-start that argument.

janbb's avatar

@jjmah You don’t think I’ll have to fight off all the competition?

Jude's avatar

@janbb He’s a great catch. We’ll do a dual wedding. Here’s mah jelly dress.

janbb's avatar

@jjmah “He’s a mean old daddy but I like him fine.”

Love the dress; now I have to go shopping.

dpworkin's avatar

Fucking is good. This answer has nothing to do with the above banter, and everything to do with the OP.

Jude's avatar

@janbb I think that Chaz grabbed the dress off of the rack before you. Bummer.

See Chaz’s avatar.

janbb's avatar

And how was your day, Honey?

CMaz's avatar

I feel so free!

ubersiren's avatar

New baby smell.
Also, pot is natural, so I think that counts.

ZEPHYRA's avatar

Freshly ground coffee!

faye's avatar

I love that we are getting that gorgeous twilight time later and longer. And I’m sorry daylight savings time is coming.

lonelydragon's avatar

A cup of hot herbal tea.

Jude's avatar

@lonelydragon just had some green tea. :)

janbb's avatar

Stuck at the airport, not a natural high! :(

thriftymaid's avatar

I find being at the shore or in the mountains to be restoring.

autumn43's avatar

Did I mention Jason Varitek’s thighs?

Jude's avatar

@janbb Enjoy your time away, though.

YARNLADY's avatar

This always does it for me, but the ducks in my backyard were a welcome treat as well.

ubersiren's avatar

@YARNLADY That’s two of the same pic… but it’s ok because they’re a couple of cutes patoots.

YARNLADY's avatar

@ubersiren Oh no, the ducks are so cute, lets hope I get it right this time.
