Is there a way to protect myself from my credit card being charge during a free trial period.

Asked by Pretty_Lilly (4660points) March 14th, 2010

I always want to sign up for free trials offered by companies but I have always been reluctant to sign up when they request credit card info. to qualify for the free trial as I am concerned of being scammed.
I have heard of people being charged for BS charges even though they canceled before the trial period ended.
Is there a way to avoid being ripped-off and in avoiding unscrupulous companies.

The only way to avoid being ripped off is to not give them a credit card number.

Read the fine print, follow the rules, cancel before the time they say they will charge you.

If they charge you outside the agreement, you can dispute with your credit card company and have it reversed (if you can document it, keep a copy of everything).

Though I think companies will rarely charge you outside the agreement. They make money because many people don’t pay attention and forget to cancel.

Never give your credit card info out unless you are buying something.

In my experience, free trial stuff is worthless anyway. Just don’t do it. Your trial starts from your date of order so your 10 free trial ( read the fine print) is over before you get the item!

Avoid this situation. once they have your credit card number, its money in their pockets.

you have to read the small print…and cancel within that trial period, or you will be charged automatically. That is the catch most of the time. If you are responible, you can get by with it.
