How can i record what is on MY tv?

Asked by poisonedantidote (21685points) March 18th, 2010

Ok, i have a client im making a website for, and he has an old tape video camera. he has footage on it that he wants to put on the website.

when i plug the cam in to the TV and press play, the video plays on the TV no problem. all i need to do is record what is on the screen.

im in spain, so no tvo or whatever they are called that you have in USA and other places, i have a DVD player/recorder, but that does not seem to record anything, in fact it seems to excel at the tast of putting perfectly round scratches on DVD’s

so, i dont have much to play with, just a plasma TV and a few computers. any ideas or help would be much much much MUCH appreciated.

alternatively, could you recommend a fast and relatively painless way that i could end my own life.

Go into your local PC City if you are in Spain. You can buy a VCR to PC adaptor which will allow you to import the footage into something like windows movie maker and export directly to the site. You can check them out at www.pccity.es

what you are looking for is a Video Capture board that sticks into your computer’s PCI slot or a USB version thereof. It will take a S-video and/or composite (RCA jack) A/V input from a video source and convert the video into avi, wmv, mpeg-2 or mpeg-4 depending on the software it comes with.
