Are there any depths to which they won't sink?

Asked by Dr_Dredd (10540points) March 18th, 2010

I just saw this story on Yahoo! News: ”State of health care debate: Pundits attack 11-year- old

Marcelas Owens is an 11 year-old boy whose mother lost her job when she became ill with pulmonary hypertension. She then lost her health insurance and died not long afterwards. He testified about this before Congress, and now the right-wing pundits are out in full force.

Rush Limbaugh had this to say: “Now this is unseemly, exploitative, an 11-year-old boy being forced to tell his story all over just to benefit the Democrat Party and Barack Obama. And, I would say this to Marcelas Owens : ‘Well, your mom would still have died, because Obamacare doesn’t kick in until 2014.’”

Michelle Malkin said: “It’s not clear that additional doctors’ visits in the subsequent months would have prevented her death.”

Why are they doing this? Don’t they have any decency at all? Sarah Palin can complain about reporters “going after her family,” but it’s okay to smear an 11 year old who just lost his mother?

You cant expect Rush Limbaugh NOT to be a huge blowhard. He’s basically a huge political shock jock.

It is my perception that conservatives have many fewer compunctions about hitting below the belt than liberals do. Liberals think people should be nice to each other, even in a fight. Conservatives seem to feel that in a fight, even if it isn’t war, anything is fair.

Because Obama is fighting for points for the Democrats, like letting gay people serve in the military, giving people access to healthcare, and trying to stabilize an economy so people can feel secure.

Can’t you see the genius of it all? If he pulls it off, people will like him for it, and that’s just… IT’S JUST WRONG.

The depths to which they will sink is as deep as the distance covered at warp 10. Infinite.

A good rule of thumb: Nothing is sacred to the news until someone makes legal threats.

This is what it looks like when a person sells their souls in favor of power and the trappings of the good life. It’s fine, if a person makes a tons of money, but most people did not have a strong moral compass to begin with. They found that they could fill the emptiness inside them with this kind of thing instead. Get enough suport from everyone around you doing the same thing, and it becomes all too easy to dismiss your conscience that nags at you. These people would do anything to fill that emptiness, except the one thing that would give them true happiness. In essence, it’s a shortcut, and it never works. This becomes thier drug of choice, and thier addiction to it is as real as any other addiction.

GA, phillis. They all make me sick.

What on earth is the problem with healthcare for all, I just don’t get the argument against it, how can anyone possibly defend not supporting such a scheme. I live in New Zealand, while our health-care system is not perfect, I sure know where I would rather be living when it comes to receiving health-care. Sheesh.

@Dr_Dredd I went on a rant that, because I had to work, ended up spanning a full 24 hours. It was on Cruiser’s question about Nancy Pilosi. Believe me, I feel you! It was all about how disgusting the corruption is to me. I literally can’t be around people like that. It feels like thier smarminess is seeping into me. I want to shower as soon as possible, but it doesn’t scrub it off. Only time shakes that feeling.

It is getting pretty bad. It gets pathetic about 50 seconds in.

There are thousands of people who could tell similar stories. What do the conservatives have to say to support their side? Oh yes Insurance CEO’s explaining why premiums have to go up 40 % and why they deserve 7 figure bonuses.

Their depravity knows no limit. Why are we still surprised?

They’re doing this to attempt to counter an obvious sympathy ploy in an effort to strangle good sense with heartstrings.
I’m with Rush; they shouldn’t have put the kid up to this.

This pretty much sums up what is wrong with politics these days…

Dr_Dredd's avatar

@Nullo Who says they put the kid up to anything? At 11 years old, I was writing letters to the editor of a local newspaper and making my voice heard. He WANTED to do this.

phillis's avatar

Oh, my GOD. I’m still teared up over the atrocious behavior toward that man with Parkinson’s disease in that video, @johnpowell. I can’t believe that people would lose their absolute freaking humanity to the point they would treat somebody that badly. No wonder there has been no resolution to this, yet. No humanity has been injected into it.

@Dr_Dredd
And they still used him in a sympathy ploy. Trying to smother the thinking mind in emotions.

ragingloli's avatar

@Nullo
You mean unlike that one republican that brought a baby to congress and said that this baby is against healthcare reform? Or unlike all those rightwing fanatics that accuse Obama of being a socialist/marxist/communist/arab muslim terrorist, trying to set up death panels to kill your grand mother, all of them pure baseless fearmongering?

Trying to smother the thinking mind in emotions.” At least with an example from reality. At least with someone who did it out of his own accord.
Republicans on the other have to lie in order to smear people and to violently suffocate thinking minds in fear.

mattbrowne's avatar

Rush Limbaugh is the proverbial antichrist.

Nullo's avatar

@ragingloli No, and yes.
The so-called “rightwing fanatics” weren’t toying with a full sixth of a fragile economy, nor threatening to spend the country into trillions of dollars of debt. And they have their evidence. Not enough, in todo, to make a compelling case, but they had it.

@Nullo cough Iraq cough

Fact from fiction, truth from diction. So goes the main reason why we need more than two dominate parties. It is all about collecting coos than doing what is right or right for the nation. In any other arena that kid would have been consoled with open arms but because to do so would show weakness in the GOP stance against universal health care they (the GOP) just can’t bring themselves to do it. It is like having a pic nic over an ant hill and when told that the ants are all in the potato salad you don’t admit it and move you just say you planned it that way because you wanted the potato salad to have a chrunchy texture.
