General Question

What book, cartoon, toy, etc, have you enjoyed that Hollywood has not created a movie out of yet?

Asked by erichw1504 (26453points) March 22nd, 2010

Name a few if you would like.

Would you accept or reject it from becoming a feature film? If you accept, why? Do you have any ideas for the plot, characters, or type of film. What actors/actresses would you prefer for the roles and who should direct? If you reject, why? Is it because it is too close to your heart and wouldn’t like for it to be ruined? Or do you think it would just be a bad idea overall?

How long do you think it will be before it will become a movie? Any other thoughts?

Micronauts? Did they make a movie about that?

Animoprhs ftw

erichw1504's avatar

@mrentropy Looks like it’s possible in the future.

Boba Fett.
JUST Boba Fett.

@J0E There was a TV series, but no film yet. Would you like to see a movie based on that book series?

jeffgoldblumsprivatefacilities's avatar

I agree with @J0E. Is it weird that I still read those books? Oh well, I love ‘em.

Anime should stay anime. I like Bleach, Naruto, Samurai Champloo, Cowboy Bebop, and Samurai X.

rangerr's avatar

@jeffgoldblumsprivatefacilities No, I started re-reading them the other day.

@jeffgoldblumsprivatefacilities

You should get with Asmonet and I, we are rereading them or at least trying.

EDIT: and Rangerr too I guess

erichw1504's avatar

@Blackberry Hate to be the bearer of bad news for you, but I just heard about this today.

jeffgoldblumsprivatefacilities's avatar

@J0E @rangerr Can we have Fluther/Animorph storytime? That would be fantastic.

@erichw1504 Huh. Color me surprised.

The Sight, by David Clement-Davies, was my favourite book for about 5 years when I was younger. I’m open to new special effects, but I’m yet to see a film about talking wolves that isn’t cheesy and juvenile.

The Easy Bake Oven…. I dare them.

jeffgoldblumsprivatefacilities's avatar

@cazzie Only if it’s a B-list horror movie. I mean, think of the possible taglines!

Cooking up… death!

GI Joe.

The naturalist, not the soldier. During and after Vietnam they made him an explorer, to take the war like edge off of him.

In the movie guy’s voice, ‘It had a 60watt bulb..creepy music… It had a door…. louder creepy music it made… MINI MUFFINS FROM HELL!! DA DA DA DAHHHH!!!

I’m all about the EasyBake Oven movie! Bruce Campbell can play the lead!

I’d love to see a stop-motion animation film adaptation of “The Phantom Tollbooth”. They made a cartoon in 1970, but I don’t think it did the story justice. If we could get, say, the makers of “Coraline” to do it, that would be awesome.

Invisible Monsters by Chuck Palihniuk should be made into a movie directed by Quentin Tarentino and starring Mila Kunis.

aprilsimnel's avatar

Operation, Perfection (And Superfection) and Lite Brite.

I bet a Lite Brite movie would be like Tron. Only much, much worse.

cazzie's avatar

Lite Bright made a cameo in ‘The Toy Story’, didn’t it?

Two words: The Gunslinger.

I can feel the gooesbumps coming up already as these words come onto the screen:
“The man in black fled across the desert, and the gunslinger followed.”

I know J.J. Abrams bought the rights to the Dark Tower franchise (or at least the first book) from Stephen King for $19, and I read that he wants Christian Bale for the part of Roland Deschain, which makes sense, but there seems to be no concrete date to start this. =(

ZAGWRITER's avatar

ok, so I found a blog that updates news for the movie:

I want a “Have Gun Will Travel” movie.

The Stephanie Plum number book series by Janet Evanovich… But I just found out that they are in the process of making the first book into a movie. Figures. Hollywood has run out of ideas! What should we do now? Lets remake yesterday… That can be redone fo sho!

Go Ask Alice by Anonymous (aka Beatrice Sparks) is another one. A good book that’s portrayed as an actual diary.

Slinky. Seriously, I loved that toy. Oh, and throw in some Silly Putty for good measure.

This Summer
In a world where metal reigns, one toy will find the strength, the passion, the elasticity to stand up and take control!

The Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan. I think it would be a bigger undertaking than would be advisable unless it were committed to animation like in Beowulf and it would have to be a very long running series…

Jack3090's avatar

Memorias de Idhun from Laura Gallego GarcĂa, I think it’s not available in english, but I loved it.

One of my favorite comics that I used to read as a kid was “The Adventures of Tintin”

Looks like my buddy Steve…erm I mean Mr. Spielberg has already shot the movie and it’ll be coming out soon. Yayyyyy

Anne McCaffrey’s Pern Series.

Ender’s Game. We’ve been promised a movie since about 1996 or so. It’s been like 14 years and NO movie in sight!

I hear rumors that there will be a Hunger Games movie coming out in late 2011 or 2012. That may adapt well.

monocle's avatar

I just can’t picture K’nex: The Movie… I hope it stays that way.

cazzie's avatar

Oh, yeah… The Judy Bloom series of kids books….like ‘Are you there God? It’s me, Margaret.’ I liked those books. and ‘Tale of a 4th Grade Nothing.’

mrentropy's avatar

Now that I’ve let this simmer for a while, the “Borrible” books by Michael de Larrabeiti would probably make a good movie or three.

J0E's avatar

Animorphs fans must watch this

Yes, I know it’s fake.

YARNLADY's avatar

I can’t believe it – wrote the Dragon Riders of Pern and I was completely unaware of the new movie “How To Train Your Dragon”.

and those paper dolls you put paper clothes on with paper tabs and the clothes always fell off and you really couldn’t play with the dolls because they’d rip. ahh, what fun before video games came along.

speaking of which, the very first video game, tennis with the two lines on each side of the screen that when up and down and the square ball that went plonk . . . plonk . . . plonk. sometimes, though, it went plonk plonk . . . plonk . . . plonk.
