Why doesn't grass grow anymore on my Minecraft server?

Asked by RocketSquid (3486points) March 22nd, 2010

I set up my own server for Minecraft, and I used the Omen map editor to make it bigger. However, ever since I changed the size, the grass no longer grows on dirt tiles, and sometimes the lava won’t flow (among a few superficial oddities).
Any ideas what could be causing it, and how I could go about fixing it?

Maybe grass doesn’t grow on your minecraft anymore because you shaved it too much? I’d say to see a dermatologist if the problem persists. As for making it bigger, you get the minecraft you’re born with. I see you mentioned changing the size, but you shouldn’t worry too much about that. If the lava won’t flow, you might want to look into cutting back on the soda and carbonated beverages and increasing your water intake. Good luck.

@jfos I have never seen someone try so hard at a euphemism.

@RocketSquid Hey, I was just working with what you said.

Grass takes a looong time to grow, and there also must be an adjacent dirt block with grass already on it. Are you sure you’ve waited long enough? Then again it is SMP which is just crammed full of bugs anyway, try making a new map and not artificially editing it and see if you still have the problem.

I would have to agree with shyer. Depending upon which version you have SMP can have alot or bugs. And yes grass will only grow on dirt when other grass is nearby to grow.

But I have to ask why did you want to make your world bigger?

@razorboi I asked this waaayyy back in the day when the only multiplayer was the old creative mode. Just had a lot of people playing at the time and it we were running out of space fast.
