How can I easily create a website like Fluther without knowing webdesign?

I have a brilliant idea for a website that is similar to Fluther, in that they are both question and answer forums. My idea is much more specific to a single topic.
I want to find out if there is a way to create a web page, that would sufficiently help carry my idea off the ground, yet be relatively simple and quick to learn for someone who doesn’t know a thing about web design.
I run Mac OSX Tiger. I do not however, have a .Mac account and do not plan to get one. The iWeb program integrated with my system requires that account to utilize it’s full potential. I would consider it to be ideal if I were able to use a Mac friendly program, but also have as much experience using windows based programs.
Thank you for any helpful ideas.
Sincerely,
Allison

That IS a B-R-I-L-L-I-A-N-T idea!
A single topic forum… WOW!
I think you’re really on to something big!
Good Luck Friend!
Hmmm.
A forum is not very hard to make. Something like Fluther… is tougher.
No easy way around it I don’t think.
Hire a web developer?
If you want to learn web design – try some of the Content Management Systems: Joomla, or Even a blog styled Wordpress.
Good Luck.
You’re going to need to learn some web design or higher someone who does, especially if you want the quality to meet your expectations. You will need a database to handle the forum comments, and you will probably need some other technologies such as javascript, asp.net, and AJAX to handle more complex processes than straight HTML can deal with.
im a pro website designer, and i can tell you now you will not be able to make anything even half as good as fluther without at least 2 years of study behind you. at least HTML CSS and PHP, and if you want cool live update features and things you will need AJAX too.
your question is a little bit like “how can i be a F1 driver without knowing much about cars”.
your best bet, is get someone to design you a template customized to your purposes and set it up with a CMS system.
Easy, huh? Good luck widdat.
I’m still trying to find an easy way to pick up girls.
@CyanoticWasp pretend to have a broken arm and get em to help you put something in your car boot, then shove em in and drive off. it worked for the guy in silence of the lambs.
@poisonedantidote… uh, well… hmm. Thanks for that, I guess, but when I get interested in this sort of thing I’m more interested in a ‘willing’ partner. I think I liked your other answer better.
@CyanoticWasp just messing around, i dont mean anything by it. ;) (my humor often goes misunderstood)
but yea, on the site making again… the security implications of letting people upload their own avatars is a nightmare in and of its self, much less everything else.
if you paid someone to make something similar to fluther, i doubt you would get much change from $15.000 and thats just the code, nevermind hosting fees, getting people to use the site, SEO and everything else you need to do.
The same way you do anything without knowing how to do it—learn.
I think it’s common for people to view programming as an afterthought, some incidental detail you have to go through in the pursuit of some bigger dream, but the reality is that computer programming is about incarnating good ideas and making them tangible: sellable. If you want to program a website, hire a programmer or learn how to do it yourself. There’s no silver bullet.
If you’re serious and passionate about this idea you need to either learn the technologies or hire someone that you trust who knows.
I would recommend the former.
