Why do people visit this website?
What makes this website so speecial? There are competitors like
Ask.yahoo.com. that performs a very similar function as this website. Why not go there and come here?

There are a number of competitors in every space... but why did people use Google when Altavista already existed?
We aim to provide a higher and better quality experience for question answering
and we have a lot of new features coming soon...
That is a very good way to distinguish from yahoo-aim.
thanks
I think it would be even better if there was a way to instantly ask question from our phone to the site.
That's a great idea... we're looking into more ways to have input into Fluther and notification out of Fluther.
people have questions everywhere they go and there's not always a computer where they can instanly ask.
And sometimes there is no way to frame a question accurately for some of the other search engines. Fluther also saves huge amounts of time that would have been spent crawling around sites...and getting side-tracked. Try Googling "dolphins" w/o subtracting "football team"..
And Fluther will answer questions that Google can't even begin to answer, such as "Can I combine regular embossing powder with glitter embossing powder?" It's wonderful to be able to ask any question that comes into my mind, no matter how silly it would seem on another site. And I always get an answer!!
Because I get to show off with my erudite and long winded (or pithy) answers, even if I don't know what I'm talking about, which is one of my favorite hobbies.
because other answer sites are designed to allow you search for data, and this onw lets you search for knowledge. the internet is great for data: what was the daily newspaper circulation in albania in 1995? ten seconds with google gives me the answer: 86,000. but google cannot tell you the best place for cheap sushi in the southeast of portland. instead, you post here and wait for me to respond "toney bento on southeast 37thl, just north of hawthorne". it's all about the difference between data and knowledge...
(update five minutes later: i googled "best sushi in portland" and sure enough found an article. but that article is really just a survey, and you can get a more immediate survey by posting here. so i stand by mt argument.)
many sites were selling cds before amazon. it's all about execution and being in the right space at the right time for the web. go fluther!
Because I'm lazy and It's more interesting to hear from other people in the hopes you may hear a quirky story :)
Also, the guys that run the site read it and are active members of the community. Making it feel more informal... and we can bug them about new features ;)
