What's the deal with this thing on Facebook where you can see who looks at your profile?

Asked by JLeslie (65744points) March 23rd, 2010

Does it work?

Do you have to really send the request to 50 other people?

There are a few things I have seen lately…not sure how they are doing it because last I knew apps like that violated Facebooks Privacy Policy. There are two that work, one is who is folliowing you and one is something about a stalker. They do not require you to send it to 50 people or anything like that either. However I question how reliable they are, I did one and most of my close friends came up.

If it is real, it violates certain privacy rights on facebook.

The 50 other people will HATE you for giving their contact info out. All of you will be bombarded with spam for the rest of eternity.

If you allow the script to run, it might be able to pull your I.P. address. I think all of your other friends would have to allow the same program to run on theirs though, in order for it to work.

Other forums I use allow this function built in to the platform. Both Frostcloud and Philosophy Forum will show me a list of everyone who visits my page.

It’s not real. Like @Snarp said, don’t do it!!!

I avoided doing it, because my husband has forbid me from doing any of those programs on facebook LOL. But, I asked because I wanted to know if people could see when I look at their profile.

I never click an ad on Facebook.

Don’t do it? But they all look so hot!

I saw a post from some one on my friends list the other day and it read see who has been stalking my page. It listed my name and I have never even been to the ladies page, she is only on my friends list b/c of business.

jbfletcherfan's avatar

@AstroChuck You’re not going to think it’s so hot if your get your name somewhere you don’t want it, Chuck. Isn’t ME stalking you enough??? ’-}

AstroChuck's avatar

But they are really hot! I mean, I might have a shot with a couple of them.

Another damn data-mining application. Before you can run it, they want your first-born son—well, at least your contact list.

meagan's avatar

Yeah, it totally works. Please send me your credit card number, name, address, and SSN and I’ll tell you how ;)

All that stuff is taking names, and profiling you. All those dumb IQ tests ask for two basic bits of info—what sex are you and how old are you—the few I was dumb enough to take, I lied. They always want to get your contacts’ info or your hotmail list or whatever they can get. The type of questionnaire you chose and the answers you gave also help profile you. The Facebook “Bucket List” is full of that. Do you want to go to Nepal? Well maybe travel businesses want to know that.

Sarcasm's avatar

Nope. They’re bullshit. They randomly pull names from your friend list and say that they’ve visited your profile.
I’ve been in the top 10 for a few different people whose profiles I haven’t viewed in months/years.
