What is it like living with one of these people, or if you are one, how aware of it are you?

I’ve a relative who acts like a hypochondriac. He is known for making sure everyone around him is aware of his ailments. Some are legit. Some, I highly doubt – but I’m not in his body, so I cannot honestly prove or deny. He spends a lot of energy paying attention to every minute detail, and has no difficulty describing any aspect of the symptoms. I’m not sure if he does this because he wants attention, or because he is obsessed with his poor health. It could be both.

It is very frustrating. I would rather not have to deal with this person, but because he is family, I have no choice (well, I know I could avoid him completely, but I would feel guilty for not having a relationship with him). I try really hard not to give him too much attention when he talks about his health concerns. Even though I hardly say anything when he discusses his concerns, it doesn’t seem to stop him. Telling him or asking him point blank to stop doesn’t work either. If there is a cure for the one hearing all of this—please let me know. It doesn’t seem curable.

When I drove ambulance, it was an occupational hazzard.

I liked these calls better than accidents. Other than wasting my time, it was usually a good outcome.

It’s very difficult, and frustrating. It’s not too severe yet, but we notice that the internet hasn’t helped much. At this point, we just brush it off. Hopefully it gets better. (note: I’m not a hypochondriac, a family member is)

I am a bit of a hypochondriac but not without good reason. Little things can set me off on months-long illnesses, so, naturally, I tend to pay attention to little things. It gets worse when I’ve recently had an illness; I’ve been well for several months so the hypochondria has diminished, but when it’s bad, it’s very stressful. I feel like I have to watch my every move. However, it has its merits: being a hypochondriac has saved my life once before.

I was a hypochondriac when I was high on speed, I thought I had all sorts of things wrong with me. The doctors humored me a bit, not quite sure what to make of all my fears and claims, on the brightside I don’t tweak no more, been years, and the brighter side, I got a pretty nurse to do an ultrasound on my balls.

My ex-mother-in-law is the Queen of All Hypochondriacs. She is constantly bothered by a million different ailments – none of which were deadly – all of which are enough to keep her from doing any kind of physical exercise, any kind of work, or basically anything she doesn’t good and well feel like doing. She will share graphic descriptions of her symptoms with anyone within ear shot. Her poor health is her favorite topic. It gets really, really, really old.

I know a girl who is a hypochondriac .

We were classmates since we were 6 and now we are still in the same university .

So there was once during history class , she was cringing in pain and said that she was unable breathe and there’s a weird kind of pain in her stomach . So the teacher got worried and called the hospital . She got hospitalized , so a few classmates went down to visit her . Out of curiosity , I asked a nurse about her condition and found it that it was just constipation . But when I went to talk to her , she told us that she had both ‘constipation and diarrhea’ at the same time . I don’t think she knows that both of them can never go together , haha .

About 5 years ago , she complained that she has been having severe headaches and I took it for real , so I asked her to go to the doctor to get it checked and she said she has brain tumor . Following week , she said that she has a blood clot in the brain . But she’s still able to run and jump around , no idea why .

And she sprained a hip muscle but said that it tore , and she is unable to move . And took 3 years off from physical education lessons . But she is the jumpiest person I’ve ever seen , even better than Tigger .

When the doctor said that she has low blood pressure , she thinks that she has leukemia or all kinds of blood problems .

Asthma , heart attack , anemia and fainting spells , lung infection leading to cancer (???) , bladder infection leading to cancer (???) , eye infection leading to permanent blindness (???) , sinus infection leading to headache to blood clot in the brain (???) , she has been through it all !

But she has to be one of the healthiest looking 22 year-old girl I see around me .
