Is there some sort of setting I could change or crack I could use to watch a European DVD on my computer that has American video settings?
So far, I’ve been told to buy a European DVD player, but since I only want to watch one or two videos from Europe, I think that would be not a wise purchase for me right now.

thought I saw your question in Askville too…here is what I would do, go to http://dvdfab.com/free.htm, download the Decrypter, then copy the DVD into your hard drive, then then play the folder using your DVD-viewing software.
But there are other ways too, such as http://www.gromkov.com/faq/faq2004-0063.html, but this is what I find most convenient. Technically not that legal, but sometimes I love to stick it to the man.
Yeah, I asked it in both places. Sometimes I get different answers depending on where I ask. Thanks for answering it here!
You offered a free and legal alternative (the first one) On AV, I was getting suggestions that were a bit too costly and not worth my wanting to play a single series of DVDs, which at most are probably 2 or 3 total all combined.
Use DVD X player it ignores the region code and is a lot easier and more legal than copying the DVD to HD.
