Sound like you may have a connection problem. If a brand new browser can’t find the Internet, maybe there is no connection through which to find it. I would recommend against downloading diagnostic tools without knowing what sort of porblem it is you are trying to diagnose. What operating system do you use? How are you accessing this site?

BTW, good luck with it.

Im sorry I do not know what are you talking about, but please don’t think I’m stupid, just bought this computer, when I type in what I want everything works, only when I want to open a new tab, so I can use the inprivate use, that way my history won’t be stored

Aha. So nothing is wrong with the Internet connection. Sorry then, I misunderstood—and I am going to have to plead ignorance of the inprivate feature. I am not familiar with it.

Also, welceom to Fluther. I do hope someone here is familiar with it and can help.

Go to Start/Programs/Accessories/ and open a DOS window (Command Prompt) and type “ipconfig /all” and see that you actually have a connection. Then type “ping www.google.com" and see if you get a result or if you are being blocked by a firewall or similar.

Please provide more info such as OS, browser, actrive antivirus/antimalware software you are using and type of broadband connection.

@DarkScribe It isn’t his connection. I missunderstood the question too. He says he had an InPrivacy tabbing application that was supposed to open a private tab when he clicks for a new tab. It’s not working. But he is able to connect in a regular tab or window. I’m not familiar with InPrivacy. Hopefully, somebody will be.

@ETpro It isn’t his connection.

It might well be a firewall issue, or a proxy issue if it is a “privacy” addition. What I suggested will give some initial indication.

what browser were you using when it started?

Fenris's avatar

Yes, but firefox uses a different name for it and I’ve never heard of this ‘accelerator’. Sounds like Opera.

@DarkScribe He doesn’t know what operating system means, so getting to the level of troubleshooting a firewall’s setting is a trip to the Geek Squad.

I love sending people to Geek Squad – they keep the real computer repair technicians in business with all the things they do.

@njnyjobs I think it safe to assume that if they just got the computer new then it’s some form of Windows 7. As for the anti-malware, a trial version of Norton is pretty popular these days and many people never change it so that is a strong possibility though less than 99% likely the way Win7 is.

@Ludy One thing to bear in mind is that not all computer problems are problems with the computer. For instance, I have occasional issues with my router that keep me completely offline, and I occasionally find that the site I am trying to surf to has an issue on their end…. one that often returns the same message you got, come to think of it!
Now, if you can get that computer online at all but just can’t get to a specific site then chances are that the screwup is on their computer, not yours.

Oh, and you did the right thing by stopping futzing around with it before you trashed it and asked. That alone proves that you know more about computers than many people :D

@Fenris If it weren’t for Geek Squad, who would we laugh at?

@Ludy here’s what you have to do. After opening a new tab and clicking on Open an InPrivate Browsing window, a new window will open which gives you a default explanation of the feature. When you’re ready to proceed to surf, simply click on the HOME icon to get your homepage displayed, and all browsing on this window will be covered by the InPrivate Browsing mode.
