Do you have any unusual hobbies?
What is it and why is it unusual? Where did you get it from? Why do you enjoy this unusual hobby? What do your friends and family think of it? For how long have you been doing it? Do you think it will catch on and more people will start enjoying this hobby?
Are there any weird hobbies that someone else you know does?
What’s the weirdest one you’ve ever heard of?

Does people watching count? I like to think of it as a hobby though I am not as into it as most (i.e. I dont take out a notepad and start making notes), but i do occasionally on those slow weekends like to sit at a bus stop and observe people going by. It really is very interesting especially the ones that interact with you and you strike up a conversation. It is something i do, that i go out of my way to do, in my spare time, that i enjoy. So i think it counts as a hobby. An unusual hobby :) My friends think it is interesting, but since it gets confused with voyeurism (perverted version of it) a lot, i dont like to brag. It is to feed my own intellectual curiousity.
I have a thing for old fire escapes and I’ve collected a few prints here and there.
Also, I dig art and music from the 30’s/40’s. I collect whatever I can get my paws on (that I can afford).
On of my unusual hobbies is studying and learning about giant and colossal squids. My family thinks it is sorta odd, but my friends and past SO’s have always put up with my random facts and intense knowledge.
I also doodle a lot and draw stick figures, I even have a blog dedicated to it. My family and friends enjoy them, probably because I depict people I know.
Overall I have some pretty supportive people in my life.
I collect odd vintage photographs; mostly medical abnormality photos, sideshow freaks, and post-mortem photos from the late 1880’s to the 1950’s.
I’m learning bayonet fighting techniques.
I guess that’s about it.
I like to make soap. I do melt and pour, and I also make it from scratch. Does that count?
I collect old food. That reminds me, I need to clean the fridge.
Antique and vintage jewelry has been my thing for 30 some years. Some of the jewelry I inherited 15 yrs ago,included a beautiful cocktail ring that my step mother received from Al Capone. Naturally I wanted to know more about the relationship and the time period and it has developed into a great interest. Dillinger is also a part of that interest. I also am fascinated with spirit pictures but not the time to make it a hobby.
@IBERnineD Thank you.
@ChazMaz Lewave it. See if you can grow a new life-form! There may be sentience in your fridge already.~
@Trillian – Those life forms are starting to talk. That is why it is time to clean it out.
Ah! Do they worship you? Think about it. The light comes on every time you open the door. To them, you’re god! I’d set them free and make them do my evil bidding.
I’m an amateur astronomer and astrophotographer. I also play the banjo.
@Rarebear – Sitting out, gazing at the stars. Plucking your Banjo.
I don’t find that unusual at all. Kind of cool.
I play a lot of old videogames, from about 1978–1995. I’ve gotten so good at Centipede I’m seriously considering taking a trip to Funspot and making an attempt at a world record. Pinball is another love, especially Creature from the Black Lagoon pin.
I was a backyard wrestler in my late teens (yeah,yeah) and still get together with the old gang once and a while for a match, often involving things like trashcan lids, chairs, tables and glass.
I also play synthesizers, and am fascinated by serial murder, tornadoes, drugs, mycology and radiation, and read almost anything I can on those subjects.
@syzygy2600 I took an audio class in college where I got to use an original Moog Synth in the audio lab for a semester and had the most fun ever with that creature!
@Cruiser I’d love to get my hands on one of those. Nice fat analog sound, like a Roland Juno 60.
I use to collect model rocked kits. Estes, Cox, Centuri, and such.
I had 100’s of them. An entire room full of them. All displayed.
@syzygy2600 The one we had was the Modular Moog… 2 tiers of sonic insanity! It was awesome. I’ve got hair curling loops I recorded in a box somewhere.
I have a wierd hobby. I collect farts. I have successfully recorded every fart that has come from my ass. I have each recorded on its own cassette tape and have them neatly labeled with a date and shelved. I have a whole room full with shelves to the ceiling full of cassettes neatly shelved. each containing 1 fart.
@Mikelbf2000 OK. You win the award for weirdest hobby, hands down.
@Mikelbf2000 Genius!
probably not that weird really…but I don’t know anyone else who does this… I dance around my living room on a Friday and Saturday…and sometimes Tuesday evenings to a variety of music making up my own dances and expressing my emotions through my body…it is probably one of the only times I truly adore myself.
I’m trying to decide whether or not to believe you, @Mikelbf2000. From what age? Why waste the tape space for one fart? What do you do when you’re out? What if it’s a SBD?
@ubersiren From the age of 10 until now. I use only 1 tape per fart because im very particular with my record keeping, I label them for future listening. I write down the time and date. Silent but Deadly farts are only inaudible to human ears because you are so far away from the buttocks releasing it. The make a sound. and very faint soud but a sound none the less.
I LOVE. PLUCKING. MY EYEBROWS. I consider it a hobby. Almost. I just spend an hour in front of the mirror plucking because I had not done so for like a week, and that is a long time in the eyebrow world. Anyhow, I don’t know why I enjoy it so much, and it’s not like I do it all the time or overdo it, but I find it enjoyable and rewarding.
I guess my strangest hobby is being on Fluther every day.
@Mikelbf2000 Raises one eyebrow I don’t know about you, buster… :)
I collect mugs and refrigerator magnets.
@Dr_Dredd that’s not unusual, i know tons who d that :)
