Investing in a new graphics card for my PC, any suggestions?

Asked by JesusWasAJewbot (1510points) March 31st, 2010

Recently my Nvidia Geforce 9800GT burned out on me and i need a new graphics card for my PC (PCI Express x16 2.0).

I was tempted to just replace it with another of the same card but havent really researched whats new out there and am trying to find something in the same price range ($100 max).

Any PC Gamers out there who can help out with suggestions?

I’d look for a Radeon HD 5750. Amazon.com has it listed at $140 but you may be able to find it cheaper (I’m in the UK so my shopping around was limited to Amazon).

I try to stick with NVidia but ive asked other places and Radeon is getting a lot of recommendations.

How much are you willing to spend, and how important is DX11 to you? (I’m assuming you’re runing Windows Vista or 7)

$100 max was mentioned

Looking at this list
http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/gpu_list.php

and Newegg prices, the Radeon 5670 and 4850 look good.

Newegg 5670s

Newegg 4850s

@the100thmonkey Around $100. Im running Windows Vista. Mainly just looking for a card that can handle – Maxed out WoW, Team Fortress 2, Torch Light and for upcoming Star Wars MMO so figured the card i had would cover it. But if theres something new out around that range id surely be interested.

Try and grab a GT 240, either the 512Mb or the 1GB version, both are excellent. They are tiny, cheap and damn tough little video cards with an awesome price:performance ratio. Barring that, try and find a GT 250 or Radeon HD 4850/4870.
