I’m getting damn sick and tired of the April Fool’s ‘joke’. It caught me first thing this morning, I’ll admit. And when I realized what was happening with names and avatars I was a bit sheepish that it had taken me so long to catch on. Good one, guys.
But come on now. This is like a whole fucking day of nothing but crank phone calls. Not funny any more. Enough is enough.

This didn’t work out well. It was amusing at first. “oh ok , April Fool’s day, the names and pics are different. Now it’s just making Fluther annoying to navigate. Oh well, small potatoes. It’ll be back to normal tomorrow. I can hang until then.

In all seriousness, I’ve found it interesting. Instead of looking at the name/avatar first and thinking “I probably will/will not agree with this”, it makes me read and interpret only the words.
It makes me realize how the identity of the commenter affects my opinion of the comment.
I agree with you @ChazMaz – It is getting old looking at the same like three photos over and over again and not being able to differentiate who’s who without serious effort (too much for me to bother…)

I can take a joke and laugh;. If it annoyed me I’d go finish reading my e-book. However I am extremely concerned that it looks as if a number of accounts have been deleted because people did not obey the rule of staying on topic. Of course when they do something like this people are going to talk about it. But every time they do they are moderated for leaving the topic. It is one thing to pull a joke, another to force us to never speak or acknowledge it. I wasn’t a terribly big fan of gailleogilrl but I’m afraid she got deleted, and many others. I argued with her before about stupid stuff, so I’m not her best friend. Still I hope deleting the accounts of people who talk about this “joke” is also a joke. Otherwise I am a little concerned.

I can’t find her account page anymore. But with all the joking, I can’t be sure of anything.

From what I saw early this morning I gathered it was about not staying on topic. We are NOT supposed to acknowledge this joke is happening on other threads because it is off topic. Which is like putting an elephant in a room and demanding nobody acknowledge it. That’s my only concern. Of course people will talk about this joke. Otherwise, why make the joke? I’m not laughing now.

If you don’t like the joke then don’t log on, it’s as simple as that. If there is a loaded gun to your head, well, I’m sorry about that. However, there is no loaded gun to my head so instead of whining about it, I’m going to enjoy it or ignore it for the rest of the day.

I was just objecting to not being allowed to discuss it openly. They can loosen the leash a little on a joke day. At least now I know people aren’t being randomly deleted for breaking the “don’t speak of this” rule. Now I’m less concerned. Thanks for explaining @andrew.

Guys, I don’t think we need to be calling the OP a baby for asking this question. One person’s humor is another’s pain-in-the-ass. There are a couple of people who had trouble with the joke, and some have decided to stay away for the day. I’m not aware of anyone except galileogirl who was affected enough to cause serious problems over it, but some people are annoyed. That said, I think it’s hilarious. :D

How is this much different than when people changed their avatars to AstroChuck for the day? That was amusing and it went away after a bit. This too shall pass.
But I am surprised to hear that gallileogirl was spamming. That strikes me as behavior unlike her.
When I saw it this morning, I rubbed my eyes and thought I was just still tired. When I realized what it was I wasn’t like, “oh haha, I get it, April Fools”

This doesn’t bother me at all.
I enjoyed the joke. My first thought was, “Oh, @Jeffvader changed his avatar, this is what he looks like.” Then I clicked on it to get an enlarged view, and it went to his regular avatar. Back and forth a couple times, I gave up. Then I saw the same avatar on some other threads, remembered the date, and relaxed. I don’t see the problem here.

Why not? We don’t get a “Stupid Question” or “Stupid Answer” button. We’re supposed to man up and say so when we disagree with someone on Fluther instead of hiding behind an anonymous click.
When you bitch about something you don’t like, you look like a big baby. (See my previous paragraph, el oh el.) When it’s something you can do something about—like simply avoid a website for a few hours—you look like an even bigger one. Read a book. Take a walk. Nap. Don’t hang around the thing that’s irritating you and bitch about it.
Though, FWIW, I hated the “joke,” too. Trying to read the user names literally gave me a headache because my glasses were, tragically, not at my house. :(

If I had been annoyed by this joke, I simply would have not been around. I certainly would not have made a fuss over it. I can easily be without any website for a day (or longer).
I looked forward to this morning. Last year’s April Fool’s prank has stuck in my mind all year. I had so much fun that day. Today’s prank was funny at first, but didn’t compare at all to last year. Oh well. I turned the computer off and went to the park with my daughter instead. :)
But we’re back to our old avatars and the day’s not even done yet! Haha, oh well. :)

@Dr_Dredd Everyone had negative lurve (I believe mine at the time was approximately -5000), when someone was crafting a response it read “username is construing drivel”, the happy welcomes in the right hand corner were not so happy (I believe some of the greetings came from this question), great questions and great answers became bad questions and bad answers, Dr J looked like this (sorry for the tiny image) and questions generally suited for the chatroom were allowed for the entire day.

For those bitching and moaning about a rather cool April Fool’s Joke…what a bunch of babies.
I liked the joke. I liked last year’s joke.
But the best by far was two years ago, when answers became questions, and questions became answers. Of course, there were far fewer of us around, then.
