What role would you take in the making of a feature film?

Asked by Vunessuh (16727points) April 3rd, 2010

You and a group of people are making a film and you have the freedom to choose which hat to wear.
Why do you choose this particular role? Perhaps it gives us insight into certain aspects of your personality and how it pertains to you internally.
Do you have the leadership skills to be the director?
Are you business-oriented enough to produce the film?
Do you have the imagination to provide the screenplay?
Do you have the stamina and guts to do the stunts?
Do you have the skills to do hair and makeup?
Do you have the range and versatility to play the lead actor/actress?
Are you a good judge of character to be able to cast the project?
Are you musically inclined enough to provide the musical score?

Here’s a detailed list providing the many important roles it takes to make a movie.

Which do you choose and what does it say about you as a person? :)

I would like to take a lead part, because I love acting. Which to me means getting deep into my dark side, my fears, my past experience and enacting it in a positive way to convey something important to an audience. Also I would like to be “some one else” for a while. I get so sick of being me.

I’d act, or do props.

I’d do anything behind the scenes. I’d really love directing or producing, but I would most likely do sound editing/mixing/recording as it’s what I do as a hobby and as a job.

I am absolutely capable (and desirous) of producing, directing, writing and acting, mainly because I like to tell stories visually. I want people to see what’s in my head.

Lighting is my thing. I’d be the DP or a grip. But I’d also love to be a foley artist. Sound is possibly the most important thing to me when I’m watching a movie.

Hey, screenplays sounds like a good idea! Maybe I could do that one day. Whaddya think, V? Should I try writing? I would also LOVE, LOVE, LOVE to be a set decorator. I adore the attention to fine detail that it takes.

Stunt person sounds interesting to me. I love to be active and try new activities. I usually do very well when I try a new activity, but I often don’t get the chance to do it again. At least not as much as I would like. Whitewater rafting and kneeboarding are two examples.

So where do I sign up? ;)

I would like to be an actress in a thriller. Not necessarily the lead, but I would like to have screen time as a dramatically helpless victim of some crazy and/or implacable bad guy. You know the scene, my hands tied behind my back and my breasts pushing forward against my blouse (no nudity for me), skirt swishing around my trembling legs, hair attractively dishelved, beautiful features distorted slightly by fear and tears . . . . All while in the grip of the threatening Bad Guy. Wow, it would be fun, whether I got knocked off or rescued by Mr. Right. I don’t know what it says about me as a person except that I would like to act out the drama cliche. LOL.

Good question.
Either costume design or camera operator.

I’m a huge control freak. I’d want to take charge of every role. But if I had to choose just one, it’d probably be director.

Secretly I’d also want the role @semblance described.

Stuntman. Was always jumping off things when I was a kid.Get’s all the girls in the trailer between takes, whoo hoo.

For a “regular” film, I could be the producer, ‘cause I’m all-business. For, um, non-PG films, well, let’s just say, Full Frontal is my middle name.

I could not be a stuntman.

I can’t write, but I like to be involved in brainstorming and decision making, so if there is such a position within the creative/writing group I’d go for that. If that didn’t pan out I’d try for female wardrobe assistant.

I have written, produced and directed quite a few films in college and loved doing that immensely especially the directing part. But for me I would choose cinematographer as I love taking pictures, film, video. For me it’s all about getting “that shot” that tells the story in a way the actor or dialogue can’t.

Hmm, let us see now why don’t we…O_o I’ll take each question that was posted, and let’s just assume that the movie I’m working on is a horror movie.

Do you have the leadership skills to be the director?
I highly doubt it. I’m not much of a leader person, and while I have no idea what directing a movie is like, it might work better if we were working as a team, instead of me telling everyone what to do. Unless we want a movie that ends up being about live porc chops that eat people or something.

Are you business-oriented enough to produce the film?
Fraid not, but I do reckon I could be good for advertising, and putting together previews and adds for the movie and stuff. I can make stuff flashy…but again those are just ideas I would have, I know nothing about actually putting it together.

Do you have the imagination to provide the screenplay?
I think I might. More than imagination though, I think I’m pretty good with pinpointing concepts and their execution…I mean say I made a slasher film, it would be totally cliché and the same as the rest, but I could work on some concepts that are usually minor in the genre. The stories for example, or character personalities and the like. I wouldn’t wanna do anything different, not too different but I think I could make it different enough for it to be interesting.
Maybe. XD

Do you have the stamina and guts to do the stunts?
Haha yeah, that’s totally what I would wanna do if I played in a movie. I wanna be a random victim. :)

Do you have the skills to do hair and makeup?
Hard to say, never done any of this before, and when I hear hair and makeup for movies, that’s like three to five hour sessions for a half an hour shoot…if it was gore, injuries and all I think I could have fun doing it though. I’m thinking I would have the patience overall, no problem with that…but I denno if I’d enjoy doing it.

Do you have the range and versatility to play the lead actor/actress?
I don’t know…maybe it depends on the type of film. If it’s a horror movie, it might be easier than some others though.

Are you a good judge of character to be able to cast the project?
I’d like to say yes, but prolly not. XD

Are you musically inclined enough to provide the musical score?
Nope haha, I’m like musically illetirate…well I might be good at picking certain songs, or saying what kinda score would be good for what part, but I mean don’t ask me to make it. XD

Which do you choose and what does it say about you as a person? :)

I choose to be a random, bloody torso. :)

@Symbeline – Thanks for reminding me. I should get my headshot over to the Law & Order extras casting agency sometime soon. I’d love to be an extra. I mean, since everyone else in New York has been on the show already.

Berserker's avatar

Anyone ever notice just how many FedEx trucks always go by in the background during a Law and Order episode? Is it just me, or is like subliminal adveritsing haha.

Makes me wonder if agent Slipowicz will ever be seen advertising Starbucks or Tim Horton’s coffee muhs or some shit. XD

funnylife's avatar

i would do hair and makeup because i practice a lot with different hair and makeup styles like when my friends come over we give each other makeovers and they always say i should me a makeup artist.

FutureMemory's avatar

@Symbeline You would be surprised how much business FedEx does in New York. A guy I once knew told me he delivered packages to and from companies that were in the same building! (Granted, they were large buildings, like the Empire or WTC).

I am the person who falls asleep in the theatre during bad movies.Yes,we are out there, and have paid money to do this…

GA’s to @everyone. Thanks guys.

@aprilsimnelI want people to see what’s in my head” – I feel the same exact way.
@semblance Awesome answer. Sounds like you’d make a great scream queen.
@Frankie I have to admit, I would be quite the control freak as well, especially if it’s my screenplay, my vision. From wardrobe, to locations to editing and music.
@Symbeline We should write a horror film together.
@lucillelucillelucille Sometimes I don’t know if it’s the movie, or you and your ADD.
