If i take pre-made chocolate chip cookie dough and roll teaspoonfulls in oatmeal, will the result be similar to chocolate chip oatmeal cookies?

i have a tub of chocolate chip cookie dough. all you have to do to make cookies is drop teaspoons full on to the cookie sheet and bake. i want to know if i drop teaspoons full into raw oats, and bake, will the result be similar to chocolate chip oatmeal cookies? i don’t want to mix the oatmeal into the dough because i don’t want to soften the dough up, as it is somewhat hard from being refrigerated.

You would be better off adding chocolate bits to oatmeal cookie mix.

You’ll probably end up with dry, half-crunchy oatmeal that falls off the cookie when you pick it up. Best to let the dough come to room temp and then fold in the oatmeal.

The oats will probably cook faster than the dough. It might burn.

I agree that this is prpobably not going to give you the results you want.

Oatmeal cookies are easy to make from scratch, and adding chocolate bits is a simple variant.

I would do what @gemiwing said.

Why don’t you try a couple just to see for yourself?

Probably. Try it out!

You would have to mix in the oatmeal, not just coat the cookies with it. A simple way to mix it in would be to put the amount of cookie dough you want to use into a big ziplock back. Add the oatmeal, and squish the bag until the oatmeal is mixed into the dough.

The oatmeal might make the dough dry and crumbly, though. You might have to also work in some kind of liquid, like water or milk. Unless you are OK with possibly wasting some cookie dough if it doesn’t work, you should probably just make oatmeal cookies and add chocolate chips like others suggested.

the reason i am not making oatmeal cookies and adding chocolate chips like some people suggested is that i have pre-made chocolate chip dough. it’s pre-made in a tub and you just scoop out spoon-fulls and drop on baking sheet and bake.

Then try stirring the oats in, with some sort of liquid to keep the cookies from becoming dry and flaky.
