Do you think they will tax us on the air we breathe?

I have visions of some scientist sitting in his little lab, calculating how many breathes a person takes per year. Then multiply’s it by the approximate longevity of males and females from birth. Then new parents will be hit with a breath tax to be paid up front on the newborn. EGADS!!

Does everyone live in cities protected by bubbles, as the outside air is toxic in this dystopia of yours?
If so, sure.
Otherwise, no, don’t be insane.
@Grisaille With what is going on in Washington these days, you don’t need to live in a bubble to get taxed for just about anything they can think of. I can remember when I was a little girl living in the country. I would over hear my parents talking about politics and taxes. I popped up and said maybe they will charge us for our water one day. No, I am not insane, I am however prepared for just about anything.
Do a little research into how much it costs to maintain a district-wide water filtration/sewage system.
Trees! If you plant them, air will come!
@Grisaille I think you have a little attitude here. Now what does a water filtration/sewage system have to do with air. Besides, if they want to they will find a scientific reason why they need the taxes for air. They will come up with having to plant more trees to balance the carbon dioxide with the oxygen, who knows, but I don’t put anything past those idiots running this country. Be prepared for anything, then you won’t be surprised.
In the country you probably got well water that was pumped from the ground and only your house used it. That is still not taxed (even under the nasty socialist Obama). 90% of the country uses municipal utilities for water now. They make sure the water you drink is kinda safe and provide a way to get it to your house and try to make sure you have it 100% of the time. I grew up on a farm with a well that was driven by a electric pump. No electricity meant we didn’t have water. That actually happened a lot so we kept a 500 gallon tank for when we would lose power.
And taxing air and your parents had to pay at birth..WTF??? That is dumbest shit I have ever read. What will happen when the parents can’t pay? Could the government could kill the child for a failure to pay taxes on the future air the child breaths? Maybe infants would be forced to take out loans repayable at 18. And if they couldn’t pay it back they go into “air” slavery.
Trust me.. ADM will get into selling air before the Federal Government. You really need to turn off Glen Beck.
@Axemusica Yes, we need trees. But will they say we need x number of trees per person? They will come with something none of us are educated enough to disprove, so we will all go along with it. Like all of us little lambs do these days. Well, not me, I am trying to think out of the box and get ahead of what is going on in this country, which I believe is going to get worse before it gets better.
They would be more likely to place a C02 tax on the air we exhale. Athletes would be a very high tax bracket.
@johnpowell Whoa, getting you all a little ruffled hey. Do you really think I that I truly believe they are going to tax us for air? I said I had visions, not knowledge of that. I don’t like Glen Beck, can’t even stand his voice. He is a scare monger. I am just trying to wake you all up to use your own power to try to make things happen in yours and our best interest. Taxing air is so absurd, but so is what is going on in Washington.
@Rangie Whoa, getting you all a little ruffled hey.
To enjoy this group a sense of humour is needed. A good sense of the ridiculous is also handy – for questions like this.
@Rangie what goes on in Las Vegas is absurd too, but what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas.
@Rangie: Can you give a specific example of “what is going on in Washington” so that we can better understand your comparison?
@Rangie but so is what is going on in Washington.
Don’t you sometimes yearn for the good old Clinton days – when what was coming off in Washington was more newsworthy?
”Do you think they will tax us on the air we breathe?”
Actually, they already do… if you scuba dive that is.
@davidbetterman Actually, they already do… if you scuba dive that is.
I scuba dive and have never been taxed. I use my own cascade system, but even if I use a club for refills there is no tax.
@Rangie :: I was responding more towards your response to Grisaille and your “With what is going on in Washington these days” comment. I don’t come close to making 250K and I got more back this year than I did last year in Federal taxes. Bush fucked poor people harder then anyone since Regan.
@DarkScribe
Sure there is. You paid a tax on buying the tanks…on buying your cascade system…on the electricity or gas you buy to run the machine…etc…etc…etc
@DarkScribe I think I have a good sense of humor, but, when I disagree, I don’t call names. I don’t call some one insane. I call them someone with a different opinion or even the same opinion, but not quite getting it. I am not trying to upset anyone, I am just trying to see how different people think.
Yes, darkscribe, I yearn for anything but what we have now. Are we all going to have to bow to the King of Saudi? I met a foreign exchange student tonight, and I was wondering if I should apologize for our country, for something, for anything.
@davidbetterman You paid a tax on buying the tanks…o
That is not a tax on air. That is a sales tax – hardly the same thing.
@Rangie That guy who called you names is just a silly willie and you really should pay no attention to such outbursts… I am sure he is truly sorry for his idiotic comment…
@DarkScribe So a tax is not a tax…Wow, That is neat how you rationalize like that.
@johnpowell You may be right at the moment, however this is the first tax year with Oboma. It isn’t over yet. I hope for all our sakes it doesn’t get worse. It is just something to think about and be prepared for. That’s all.
In a way, they already do.
They tax us for everything else we need in order to draw breath. Food, water, shelter….you name it.
They’re just not doing it directly.
@davidbetterman I like the way you debate. You state your opinion and you are polite about it. You don’t offend anyone. I appreciate that, and I expect that we are all old enough to act the same.
@DarkScribe oh come on you knew he ment sales tax meaning the only thing close to being able to tax. :P
@Rangie just because a semi black male got into office he wants to get back at whitey with taxing our air? Come on, what is this Spaceballs? Are we gonna be living on planet spaceball within the next 3 years? Sniffing cans of air?
@Rangie Why thank you kindly dear lady. Let’s hope some of these flutherers with high lurve points can learn a thing or two from your gentility as well!
@Draconess25 and probably twice. And we don’t know that either.
@Axemusica Is Obama semi black? Maybe he will only semi tax us ! JK
I know people who sniff cans of air…No, wait…it is cans of paint they aer sniffing…or lacquer.
I mean, it’s all about money. People are talking about making Earth greener. Which kind of green? Their ill-gotten money soiled by greedy hands?!
@Axemusica Gee, I hope you are not prejudice. I never said anything about black. Why didn’t you say semi white male? I don’t care what he is, black or white. That is not what I am talking about. It is politics, you know CHICAGO politics. Power, money. period
Nah, they probably won’t do that.
@davidbetterman Are you a closet comedian? You have an ability to make me laugh. I am sitting here all by myself laughing out loud. Sniffing paint hehe. Semi tax us. hehe.
@davidbetterman DarkScribe So a tax is not a tax…Wow, That is neat how you rationalize like that.
No. I don’t regard a tax as not a tax, I regard someone who says “they already do” in response to the comment ” Do you think they will tax us on the air we breathe” and quotes it in his reply as nor being accurate. It is NOT an existing tax on air.
Clap trap dystopia spot on. Taxes are good i like them specially for rich people :)
Well I think they do, although there is free oxygen in prison. (Where we go if we don’t pay taxes!). That means you will be paying for my air loll.
No, but
If you drive a car (car) – I’ll tax the street;
If you try to sit (sit) – I’ll tax your seat;
If you get too cold (cold) – I’ll tax the heat;
If you take a walk (walk) – I’ll tax your feet.
‘Cause I’m the taxman,
Yeah, I’m the taxman.
Now my advice for those who die, (taxman)
Declare the pennies on your eyes. (taxman)
‘Cause I’m the taxman,
Yeah, I’m the taxman.
And you’re working for no one but me.
@mammal Why would you say that? Are you jealous of the rich people? I think it is great that some people have been able to reach the American Dream. You could too if you would stop envying the rich. After all who do you think provides jobs for the less rich? Do the poor provide jobs for folks to raise their families? Of course not. Do the middle class provide as many jobs as the rich and corporations for folks to raise their families? Of course not. So why would you want to put down the rich? Or are you one of those, that are waiting for the socialist to take over this Country? bye bye American Dream
@anartist McCartney is nearly down to his last Ha’Penny i believe.

@mammal Sorry if I offended you, but you could have certainly come up with a better answer than that.
SOCIALISM, HELP
“This morning I was awoken by my alarm clock powered by electricity generated by the public power monopoly regulated by the U.S. Department of Energy. I then took a shower in the clean water provided by the Municipal Water Utility. After that, I turned on the TV to one of the FCC-regulated channels to see what the National Weather Service of the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration determined the weather was going to be like using satellites designed, built, and launched by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. I watched this while eating my breakfast of food inspected by the US Department of Agriculture and taking the drugs which have been determined as safe by the Food and Drug Administration.
At the appropriate time as regulated by the US Congress and kept accurate by the National Institute of Standards and Technology and the US Naval Observatory, I got into my National Highway Traffic Safety Administration-approved automobile and set out to work on the roads build by the local, state, and federal Departments of Transportation, possibly stopping to purchase additional fuel of a quality level determined by the Environmental Protection Agency, using legal tender issued by the Federal Reserve Bank. On the way out the door, I deposited the mail I needed to send out via the U.S. Postal Service and drop the kids off at the public school.
After spending another day of not being maimed or killed at work thanks to the workplace regulations imposed by the Department of Labor and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, I enjoyed another two meals which again do not kill me because of the USDA. I drove my NHTSA car back home on the DOT roads, to my house which had not burned down during my absence because of the state and local building codes and Fire Marshal’s inspection, and which has not been plundered of all its valuables thanks to the local Police Department.
I then logged on to the Internet which was developed by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Administration and posted on Fox News forums about how SOCIALISM in medicine is BAD because the government can’t do anything right.”
(credit to anonymous)
@Rangie nah it would probably be squandered.
@mammal LOL
hard to tax his last ha’ penny. I guess he skates, Lord Mick and Lord Elton likewise.
But he better declare the ha’pennies on his eyes
if the need arise
@mammal Your answer has been flagged! :)
I never get people who bitch about taxes so much. They want all the benefits of taxes, but they don’t want to have to pay them…
@Rangie Why envy the rich? I pity them. Most sold their souls to gain their riches, but they’re screwed in whatever afterlife there is. You’re dead much longer than you’re alive.
True, there are some good ones, but they’re few & far in between.
@Draconess25
Most sold their souls to gain their riches
Oh and I’m sure you have mountains of evidence to back that up.~
@mammal You are rude and crude…flagged…Quit sniffing the paint, it isn’t working for you.
@davidbetterman no i’m fucking not, not as crude as your poetry anyways rude and crude you should be arrested for that. lol.
@Draconess25 I don’t pity anybody. We all make our own choices. Some choose to sit and inherit their riches, which is their right. Some choose to work hard and gain their riches. Some choose to just get by. Some choose to live on the street. Pity, no. As far as selling their soul. There are poor people, middle class people, and rich that will sell their soul for something. It is their choice. Not just one class of people.
@Rangie You have picked up a troll on your fine question..it is a pity.
Well, her reply was removed…too bad they don’t remove her too!
you see @Grisaille‘s response? that just happened! Shake and bake

@mammal ew! no thanks wash your mouth with soap troll
[Mod says:] Woah, hey, flame off. Stay on topic.
Come on guys. Really.
Sounds good to me. So, where were we?
@mammal is it not time for nurse to take the dangerous computer away from you now? Maybe just let the adults discuss a matter so run along now there is a good boy
I know this subject can create some heated discussion, but I really want to keep it as a discussion. I love hearing all of the different view points and why you all think it. So lets ignore the interference by those that really don’t want to participate.
@DarkScribe Taxing the tank that holds the air you breathe is the just about the same as taxing the air.
the issue of tax is quite a good one for us here in the UK as we shall be voting in a general election in the next couple of months….I reckon the Conservatives shall only tax the air in the poor parts of the country while bringing in bottled air from France for the rich….but on a serious note it is ridiculous the things you get taxed on….and remember with some things you get taxed on a tax due to VAT.
I’m going to ration my air to be on the safe side
@Rangie Not sure if it is the same everywhere I would imagine it is, here the more you earn the more heavily you are taxed. I think it is fair, even though I am on the highest rate of tax 39%. Because I believe all humans deserve a life. We have no welfare here either. Only for certain race groups. (Not mine) nor medical. Even the people on welfare here get very little I think it is in the region of $80 a month. However we pay for roads and other things that need to be paid for. Our demographic is highest on black youth so most of the funding is there. Inheritance is also taxed.
When we say they, as in: “Do you think they will tax us..”, aren’t we really supposed to say we?
We vote for people to govern us, we give them are voice, based on their ideas/policies.
Of course for half the population that aren’t the people we like to see in office, but the politicians that are not governing this period surely also have taxes in their programs.
@rebbel yeah it is more a question of where the money is going that matters. I don’t mind tax not at all.
@davidbetterman DarkScribe Taxing the tank that holds the air you breathe is the just about the same as taxing the air.
Sure, and putting a sales tax on my wife’s bra and knickers is putting a tax on my sex life. Be realistic – a sales tax on dive equipment is is NOT a tax on air.
@Just_Justine I also believe that humans deserve a life. There are some that truly deserve help. There are many what I call abusers, and then there are those that believe in taking care of yourself. It is the abusers I have a real problem with. But more than that, I have a bigger problem with the lawmakers. They make promises to get elected, then they follow through on some of the promises, that won’t affect them. Welfare was a decent idea, but where are the enforcers of the rules? No where. I say if they can’t enforce it, don’t make the law.
@anartist Sadly, no. Credit to an anonymous poster on an anonymous imageboard I do not browse (for the record). Someone I know linked to a screenshot of it, and it’s just exemplary.
Point is that the “socialism” diatribes are worthless. And either wholly disingenuous or critically misinformed.
@Rangie oh absolutely. If I gave up work for e.g. I am on the street. However our issue is different in South Africa, we have a bottle neck of oppressed people. So our money goes on their schooling, housing, and other costs. I personally feel welfare is abused it is a sad fact. It could also create new problems unto itself like “lazy ass’s” who don’t work and bleed the economy. Plus feel nothing in doing so. Not good at all. At least to a large extent I know where our money is going.
@rebbel Yes, we are suppose to say we. But, unfortunately too many people believe what the politicians are saying, and then not doing it, once they get in office. Our intentions were good, we want to believe the folks that say they want to run our Country and make it better. But, the modern politician is not like the Statesmen that ran the Country many years ago. Today they make a career of it and then get a great retirement. Way back when, the Statesmen came to Washington to do their job, and then went home. I doubt they were even paid for their services. They were sincerely concerned about this Country. Do you really think Obama and Pelosi are?
You know it really gets me when I fill out a form that says ” do own, rent your home. I say own, and then chuckle to myself. With all the property tax I pay, I am really renting. We own some heavy equipment, well sort of, we have to pay personal property tax on that as well every year.
Then there are those that work “under the table” and don’t pay for their child support. So mom goes down and files for child support. The County pays her and tries to collect form dad. Mean while mom is getting unemployment and also working under the table. Who is paying for all of these things, we are.

So where should that money to come from? You own shit, you are in a better position to pay then the person that works at Burger King for 7 bucks per hour.

My brother in law only gets unemployment for six months after being unemployed. He is a union electrician. You don’t simply get it for not working. IT ISN’T THE DOLE. Fuck it. You are a brick wall. I will go read 4chan. I can converse with reasonable people there.
Too late. We are already being taxed on the air we breathe. Environmental studies and the clean air bill are already being paid by our taxes and through price hikes in companies that have to change their equipment to be environmentally friendly.
If you think taxation is a new phenomenon associated with the current residents of Washington, then you haven’t been paying attention.
What an annoyingly fatuous question.
If the government could figure out a way to do it, they would. In the famous words of Michael Douglas in the movie Wall Street: “Greed is good. Greed works.”

when we go to outer space their will be a tax on air…like on Total Recall some S.O.B. will take over and control all the air in the colonies
@johnpowell I think you may be misunderstanding my point. I am certainly not the best writer.
I have a sister that really doesn’t want to work. Neither do her grown kids. So they figured out the system, where they could all get SS disability. Each one has an exaggerated disability. They sign up and qualify for all kinds of things. Each one is capable of working like the rest of us. I worked very hard all my life. I learned how to run heavy equipment, stick pipe in trenches, dig up broken waterlines, help fall trees (3 to 4 hundred feet tall) and about 4 feet in diameter. Hard work, and I couldn’t even afford to send my daughter to college. So she worked and paid her way through, it took longer than it should have, but she did it. She is a teacher now. What I am saying is so many of these people are using us and abusing our good nature. I like helping people that really need it as much as the next person. But, pretty soon our taxes will be so high, we won’t even be able to do that. I think I am reasonable, and you have no idea what things I have done to help people. Do you give food to the shelters? Do you give clothes and blankets and sleeping bags to the homeless? Do you give dog food for their dogs? My husband is a combat wounded veteran, and we live on his disability and SS. Tight, and I still find a way to help where and when I can. Please don’t assume you know who I am and don’t underestimate me. I am only bringing up issues for food for thought.
@Rangie – if it makes you feel better, it was Republican president Eisenhower that expanded Social Security to things beyond retirement (like disability) without funding it. For me, I’d rather have tax-and-spend than spend-and-don’t-tax when it comes to things like that.
@laureth Personally I’d rather have a national sales tax and leave it at that. So many keep saying tax the rich, well they will get their wish, because they are the only ones that can afford it.
LOL…the really fun thing here is finding a reply removed and not remembering what in the world it said!
@Rangie I only wish I could remember. i get so mnay of my best quips removed!
@davidbetterman dang it, who were you defending? Maybe you will remember if you can remember that. Nonetheless I’ll bet is was funny.
@Rangie I was probably saying something nasty to that Johnpowell idiot who has been cursing you on this thread!
Read this quick, it will surely vanish soon
@davidbetterman Yes, I thought so, You are so cute, thank you. I tried to kill him with kindness, but some people just don’t get it.
Thank you kind sir
We don’t need anti-tax polemics. We need societies valuing solidarity.
