Does life feel like a dress rehearsal to you?

I have had this experience my whole life where I feel like I am living the small / pretend / rehearsal version of my life. I feel I am temporarily living this life (living where I am, working where I do) until the time comes along when I will live the big (or real) version of my life. This temporary / small life is not the life I would choose, it’s just a comfortable way to spend the time until the real life starts.
The temporary / rehearsal version of my life involves:
– living in a suburban area with a lot of concrete
– working in an office
– bringing lunch to work
– chit chatting with people about the minutia of daily life
– driving on a lot of highways and sitting in traffic
– paying bills & going to the grocery store
The real / big version of my life has limitless possibilities but involves some things like:
– living in many world-class cities (Paris, Rome, London)
– living in a beautiful, stylish glass condo
– seeing the whole world
– flying on planes & spending time in airports
– hanging around music recording studios
– possibly making movies
– going to the spa & getting massages on a caribbean beach
– doing yoga in India
– talking to people about meaningful & big ideas (getting to the bottom of life’s mysteries)
– working in a creative job where I get to make things when I feel like it & work as much or as little as I want
I’m starting to get concerned about this because I can see a possibility that the real / big life might never happen & also because I’ve heard the phrase “life is not a dress rehearsal” so if I live the rest of my life like this, I think I will end up disappointed in the end.
Do other people out there experience this? – do you feel like you are biding time living in a dress rehearsal and that someday you will be living the real life that you imagine?

With me in my third decade of life, it feels more like a “Three Act Play”! Lol.
Oh, HELL no! There were too many times I didn’t get a do-over! This one’s for real.
Well, do you ever get the feeling
That the story’s too damn real
And in the present tense
Or that everybody’s on the stage
And it seems like you’re the only
Person sitting in the audience”

Skating Away (on the Thin Ice of a New Day)
Like feels like a big play where everyone is looking and sizing you up. Thats how it feels to me.
Mine feels more like a German surrealist dark comedy.
This is all live performance.
Sometimes i feel like that. maybe like im just sitting in a huge waiting room waiting for something bigger and better to come along. Then when it doesn’t i feel like an idiot for not making the best of whatever was going on at the time. or sometimes i feel like u get bored of the same cycle. anyways it sounds like you need a career change where you can be creative and express yourself. you sound a bit trapped.
You should not live one single day disappointed in how it turned out. Learn to make lemonade, learn to make your own “Rome” where you live and simply make the most of each and everyday. I know I come here to “escape” the real world I live that doesn’t measure up to my dreams while I work my job for that someday somehow someway moment!! Life is too short not too!!
No and even when young it never did. In recent years I’ve gotten greedy with what I want to do with mine, what kind of people to share with, all kinds of mortality stuff. I’ve kept a calendar where I fill out daily things that happened and it’s focused me better to be proactive in making positives.
No. I always thought I was on stage before the audience, stumbling over my lines and ducking the rotten tomatoes.
I think you have all the components to make that life your real life.
What a deep thinking and observant person you are!
You see already ( I am assuming you are younger than maybe 40 (?)
That you are a PUPPET and wish to control your own strings! lol
Do you know how many others wouldn’t even NOTICE what you are noticing, talk about self awareness!
Eh….drop your life anytime you want and just start traveling…you can do it! :-)
There is nothing to feaqr but fear itself…jump off a cliff once in awhile, I promise you will land in one piece!
i feel like i’m in a movie
Because we ARE in a movie. lol
No. But, sometimes I do feel like I’m in the Twilight Zone.
Didn’t someone once say that “All the world’s a stage, And all the men and women merely players…”
