Asked by SteveOOO (46points) April 6th, 2010

Well I am going to some friends’ huge party. Needless to say, there will a lot alcohol. My problem is that I tend to get very sleepy within the first hour of my first drink. I want to enjoy the entire party and ya know.. not get messed with.I was wondering if there are any ways for me to keep from falling a sleep?

Isn’t Spring Break over?

Perhaps, mixing it with an energy drink? Jaeger/Red Bull?

Or, you know… You could just not drink as much, or drink slowly. :P

stop being such a lightweight.

Drink slowly. Or shoot for a mixed drink, like a rum and coke, that has caffeine. Or just switch to coke (your call on what I mean).

Drinks with high caffeine mixers. Rum and coke always goes down easy. Vodka and redbull, or jager and red bull.

Or you could just drink a can or two of red bull then drink beer after. Though its probably not a great idea, might be a bit of unnecessary strain on your heart.

I think you could confide in a friend that you don’t want to fall asleep. Somebody you trust. Give them a prodding stick and anytime you look drowsy they can just poke you with it. Pay him in beer

Eat something just before going to the party. The food will help asorb the alchohol so it won’t go through your system so quickly. Drink it slowly and drink plenty of water between drinks. If you stay well hydrated it will also help. Oh, and try not to mix your drinks. If you’re having beer than stick to that. If you’re having wine, than stick to that.

I’d like to help you with this, I’ve been dealing with the same problem for about a decade now. I’m what you would call a lightweight but can also a heavy drinker sometimes. I commonly fall asleep after just one light beer, even though my tolerance could be really high. I find that standing up is essential to staying awake, as well as staying active. Bring a ball and toss it around if you have to. Go for a short run when you start falling over. Or have a cigarette. As soon as I sit down, I’m pretty much out. I also have quite a few friends who look after me and don’t allow me to sleep. They generally shake me, stand me up, and ask me a series of questions. I also find that the pain of shotgunning beers quickly will wake me up.
