What are some tricks to look thinner in a photo?
I gotta go get some portraits taken tomorrow.
I’m not exactly the thinnest I’ve ever been.
Any clothes I should wear/makeup techniques/angles to pose in so I can get a picture that won’t be an embarrassment for years to come?

Wear loose clothing and stand tall. Angle your hips to the camera, but twist at the waist to face it. Wear dark clothing and NEVER horizontal stripes or similar. I assume that you are female. if so, wear a long dress and the highest heels that you own.
In terms of photo technique the only one I’m aware of is to make sure the lighting source is from low down shinning upwards….
Cloth-wise however there are a few tricks. If you’re wearing trousers then match the colour of your shoes to the trousers, it’ll make your legs look longer & so thinner. & a heel, obviously, has a similar effect
V-necks or having the top couple of buttons of a shirt help, they help reduce any extra chin issues.
No bright colours.
& wearing fitted clothes rather than baggie clothes…. if I think of any more I’ll pop back.
Good posture helps. Make sure you wear undergarments that work to your advantage. Choose a shirt or dress with long sleeves and v-neck in a solid color. Keep your hair loose.
a healthy diet, and working out….. oh by tomorrow..
Get some larger people to be in the photo with you. :)
Stand in the back row and push everyone else up closer to the lens.
Or wear something so super ugly and garish that it takes all the focus of yourself. Like a massive multicoloured Patterned knit jumper!
OK!! Then How about getting wrapped with Saran Wrap ,,,,then immediately after the picture having someone cut you out !!!
@Pretty_Lilly Hahaha, yeh, that sounds alot more comfortable :) & now Im desperately having to stop myself picturing that….
I was going to say that people mostly look thinner during movement, but these sound like professional photos.
Look up some things about makeup and cheek/jawbone contouring. I’d tell you how to do it myself, but I don’t know how to explain it.
Stand slightly sideways, tilt your head down slightly, and lean toward the camera a bit.
It depends. I would practice in front of the mirror (that’s the best way) and see what your “good side” is, because yes they do exist! As someone said above, good posture helps and if you have slight double chin, stick your head/stretch your neck out a bit. Remember: practice in the mirror so you don’t look awkward when you see the photos!
However – it sounds like a prof. photographer is taking your portraits so it would also be their responsibility to know what angles and lighting works best for you.
I always thought you held the biggest part of you away from the camera, the closer to the lens the bigger it will seem!! So for me my arse would be well and truly away from teh camera!
drink water…honestly it will make you look thinner
Thanks for the suggestions guys. :)
I’ve picked out a flattering, somewhat low-cut top and a loose cardigan to wear over. They’re both dark colors and I think it’ll work out great.
As for hair, I can’t do much since at the moment I pretty much don’t have any, haha.
But I’m sure the photographer will pick flattering poses.
Focus on the thinnest or curvy part of your body. If it’s your waist, wear a dress or top with a v-neck and an empire waist. If it’s your bust, wear a v-neck but not belt. etc. Accentuate the best part of your body that you’re comfortable showing off!
It’s all about the angles, lol. And I’m sure some people use photoshop.
