How can you receive a text message if your phone plan doesn't have texting?

Asked by botheredbewildered (31points) April 8th, 2010

I need to activate a service that sends out an activation code as a text message.

But my phone plan doesn’t have SMS.

Is there any other way to receive the text?

On most phones it’s still enabled by default, you just don’t have a texting plan.
You’re getting charge $.20 per text.
That adds up quick.

If your phone is texting disabled, it’s all a no-go.

Generally, even if you aren’t subscribed for text messages, phones can still receive them – which makes a lot of people angry. You usually have to specifically contact a phone company to disable text messages if you don’t want to be charged for them.

So the shorter answer is: Yes, you can receive text messages.

RE: Texting…

The most aggravating thing about texting costs is that texting costs the company nothing.
That’s right. It costs cell phone companies nothing.

They’re merely charging you because they figured out a way to get you to pay.

@Captain_Fantasy Very true. Text messages are actually considered the biggest ripoff in America. Grr.
