What’s next pay toilets ? [ Number one = $5 /Number 2= $10 + $2 for TP /$2.50 for double ply]
Why not just raise their prices and stop with the BS add-ons ?

Makes me want to take the train.
Why is it our problem that the airlines execs can’t figure out how to run a successful business without gouging their customers?

BTW that’s Spirit Air that wants to charge you for your backpack.
Now you know which airline needs to fail.

SouthWest is doing all right, they don’t charge for the first 2 bags. And their rates are generally cheaper too.

Forget the rest and fly the best…...Southwestern.

They will load your luggage free with a smile on their face.

Not Delta, Not American, and Not Continental…............Southwestern.

Also, Alaska Airlines.

Airlines lose money as if they were actually trying to lose it. I’d say it makes sense.

It’s a niche pricing game that the airlines are playing, It actually makes sense to charge on an ala carte basis for luggage since the cost of operating a plane increases with increased weight load. Why would people who do not have luggage when traveling pay for the cost of those people with baggages. If a passenger expects to travel with baggage, they should simply add-on the cost of baggage carriage in their airfare calculation.

Spirit Airlines is terrible. Absolutely terrible. The fact that they’re charging for carry-on bags is not representative of what the whole industry is going to do. It’s not like United, Delta, or American are doing this yet, and I doubt they’re likely to anytime soon.

full disclosure: i had a nightmare of a travel day with Spirit Airlines once and will never fly with them again.

Doesn’t the price of the ticket cover all the costs?
And what about $5 for a crumby sandwich?

Pretty_Lilly's avatar

@davidbetterman Many Airlines are already doing that, they charge you extra for snacks and soft drinks and to top it off they are “sh*tty”
$4 for soda and they won’t even give you a can or bottle but a cup with flat soda and a ton of ice !

@Pretty_Lilly
Glad I only drink water. And I get a decent meal and snacks before boarding and bring it with me.
I treat the stews very nicely and they always give me perks and extras.

Well hey, it’s only $45 for 72 virgins, that seems like a good deal to me.

I smiled at your comment about pay toilets. The bus depot used to charge 10 cents a stall. In some countries in EU you pay, too. I agree it would be a little harder to find an alternative on a plane. My daughter is flying to Greece and she gets a free suitcase up to 50 lbs, a purse and a carryon- Air Canada and Lufthansa.

I thought Ryan Air was moving forward with pay toilets?

I think all of these charges are ridiculous. How can someone even begin to price out their ticket price? I’ll take the car, train or ship thanks.

What else is new? Big suprise.
And H&R Block raised their prep fees $55 dollars this year too.

It is what it is.

I flew Air China last month to Taiwan, not bad, pushed the limits on return carryon, no problem.

Food mediocre to bad as always. lol

faye's avatar

I had great food on Lufthansa- wanna go again.

JeffVader's avatar

I wouldn’t mind too much if they nocked it off the ticket price.

aprilsimnel's avatar

It’s the death of a thousand little cuts, innit? Sheesh. Just make it a flat rate!

And where’s the goddamn magnetic rail? It can’t be just overpriced airplanes or grotty bus service! We need alternatives!

2nd Answer…..........

Are you familiar with a co-payment when you make a visit to your doctor?

The airlines have discovered this little trick and save the money for the employees Christmas Bonus this year.

Neizvestnaya's avatar

They won’t be getting my money. I’m a woman and can find a handbag large enough to double as a carry on and still fit under the seat. Maybe travel will go back a few decades where people carried on a coat and wore their busiest outfits rather than stuff them into a suitcase.
