Something on your friends face, hard question to ask...

If someone you know has something stuck in their teeth on the right side of their mouth, do you point on the right side of your mouth or mirror them to show them where it is? My girlfriend always does it the way that makes it more confusing, why cant everyone just do it the mirror way? It seems to make more sense.
