Books for a teen in recover from drug addiction?
I’m trying to help a student of mine. He’s just started attending NA (Narcotics Anonymous) meetings and is very motivated to change. A few of us teachers are talking to him and supporting him but I was wondering if anyone knows of any books about recovery from drugs/alcohol addiction that specifically address teen issues? Any recommendations?

The Testament by John Grisham
A story of awakening and recovery.
Though it is not about teen issues specifically, there are a number of issues it does address for teens addicted to drugs and money.
The obvious answer is Go Ask Alice by Anonymous. It’s 30 years old, but still relevent.
@filmfann I so remember reading Go Ask Alice in junior high and swearing I would never, ever do any illegal drugs. Imagine my devastation when I found this all these years later!
@crankywithakeyboard you might check out Beautiful Boy by David Sheff. Even though it was a challenging read for me (as a mom with boys on the brink of puberty I just could not finish it, I found myself too stressed out by it!), it is a very interesting story and I understand the young man stays sober.
@SuperMouse I thought I read something several years ago, where an adult admitted to being one of the kids in the book, and that it was actually several peoples diaries combined.
The book that meant the most to me when I quit drugs was Cross and the Switchblade. It was given to me by my English teacher.
It is a Christian book however, and these days a teacher might get in trouble for giving it to a student.

@Judi It’s really sad when a teacher will get in trouble for doing something that ACTUALLY HELPS.
@snowberry ; Yes, Mrs Baker changed my life. She would probably get fired today.
Last Night I Sang to the Monster by Benjamin Alire Sáenz. It is an amazing book, the main character is Zach, an 18 year-old recovering alcoholic/drug addict. The book takes place in the rehab center where Zach has been sent to begin the process of getting sober.
