Does anyone know of any good free antivirus software?
I really don’t have any money to spare at the time, so I’d prefer it to be free.

I’ve used AVG forever and it’s worked great for me. It was recommended to me by close friends who work in IT.
My computer guru put Avira on here & it works great. I love it.
There are a few really good ones. Take a look on CNET
Avira, Microsoft Security Essentials, AVG all get good reviews. You can see test results at http://www.av-comparatives.org/
As well as running one of those, testing regularly with Malwarebytes is recommended. It catches different problems.
I used to use AVG, I switched to Avira for no particular reason. Didn’t have any noticeable problems with AVG and Avira seems fine.
I use Comodo. The free version has worked great and caught a lot of stuff AVG, McAfee, Norton, etc. didn’t.
Which reminds me: When downloading things like that, do you click Run or Save?
@jaytkay Yep…I have Malwarebytes, too. It’s also a good one to have. I run it every month.
I use AVG free and then Comodo for extra firewall security. Haven’t ever had any problems with my laptop since I got it almost two years ago now.
I second AVAST. It is free fro private users and one of the most efficient around. We use it commercially in work environments and most of our staff use the free version on their home systems. None had ever had a problem with a virus in four or five years.
Avast. I use it on two computers and have for years. No problems whatsoever.
AVG is pretty good. It’s been a few years since I used it, but when I had it, it did a reasonably good job of catching viruses.
Always have at least 2 layers of protection so on top of AVG try Adware by Lavasoft or Zone Alarm by Grisoft.
