Why do the SF Giants suck so bad?
Seriously.. I’m a fan only because I have a great nostalgia for all the games I attended at Candlestick Park when I was a kid. But for all the games I went to, the Giants pretty much always lose. I just went to the opening home game on Saturday and sure enough, decades later, they still stink.
Why? Why haven’t they gotten any better? I honestly want to know the answer.. is it a lack of resources to get great players? Mismanagement? Bad training? Does anyone know?

Probably because that has-been and doper Barry Bonds gave them a bad name.
well, there is that pesky curse
but (say) hey, maybe this is our year! we’re on top of the division!
The home opener was on Friday, not Saturday. And they won that. In fact you must have bad luck as you saw the only game they’ve lost so far this season.
I also grew up watching the Giants play at Candlestick. Willie Mays is a god to me. They were a damn good team in the 60’s, it’s just that someone was always a little better (except in ‘62 when they were the best team in baseball despite losing to the Yankees in game 7).
@AstroChuck – Interesting.. you can tell I don’t follow sports. My mom bought tickets through an event service and looking at it now, I realize it was the first opening night game, with fireworks.
Yeah, maybe I do.. I see they won the previous game, but they did not do very well on Sat., lots of dropping the ball and bad plays. :(
Seriously? They just won their first 4 games and are currently 5–1.
Which team are you watching?
Barry bonds pretty much dominated the payroll which prohibited them from filling in holes in the roster. They just never had the the right fit since their last World Series appearance.
Instead of Bonds, we have Lincecum now.
I like him a whole lot more.
LOL. I didn’t know! I thought it was the first game and it was so disappointing because they got summarily spanked. All I know is sucky Giants. :P
TRY BEING A BASEBALL FAN FROM PITTSBURGH OK! you’ve got it good. lol.
@deni- And I hope you Pittsburgh fans are miserable tonight as well.
Are you jinxing the team? lol
I have that problem with other sports. I go, team loses.
If I’m in attendance, I think Vegas instantly changes their betting odds on the game.
At least Pittsburgh has 2 Championship caliber teams.
Right now the Bay Area has 0.
Haha. Oh, I dunno.. I think I was (obviously) very unlucky in terms of the game I attended, and I have been in attendance when they’ve won. I just have an overall memory of them just not being the greatest team.
Keep in mind that sports is an area in which I am almost entirely ignorant.
@Captain_Fantasy Their last World Series appearance? Wasn’t that when the A’s KICKED THEIR ASS?
Oh the Giants have sucked out loud for years, no question.
@filmfann No they got whooped by the Angels since.
I have pictures of me in a Giants uniform when I was 6, watching Mays and McCovey. That was a great team
well thats a given. it really isnt even considered a sport anymore in pittsburgh. lol
Technically, the game you attended is the only game they’ve lost all season. They’re currently 5–1 and in first place in the NL West.
If you’re looking for insightful analysis on the Giants organization, I’d recommend reading John Perricone’s commentary at Only Baseball Matters.
Well, the reason is the fact that they spent all their money on the pitching staff. A good pitching staff will win you games, but you need to have hitting as well—especially in ATT park.
They left New York. They’re cursed.
Uhm, guys… Cleveland fan here… we have the Browns AND the Tribe. I don’t want to hear it.
And they win again tonight! As ex-skipper Roger Craig would say, “Humm baby!”
you gotta love those kids!
@deni, I’ll give the Pirates this, it looks as if PNC Park is a really cool place. I haven’t gotten there yet, but would like to. Just not to see the Pirate talent… :)
@PrancingLichin- But it doesn’t hold a candle to to Pacific Bell SBC AT&T Park.
@PrancingUrchin i haven’t been to ATT park though i might go to a game this summer while im in the area, but PNC park is awesome despite the lack of talent that plays inside of it. It has the perfect view of the city :)
@AstroChuck & @deni, I was unfortunate enough to have not ever gotten to Candlestick but AT&T looks beautiful too. I’ve only been to a few so far but I’ve got time I guess. Just want to get to some before they get rid of them. I don’t think any new ones are being built or planned right now though so I’ll get to all of them hopefully. I’m from the Chicago area so I’ve been to the underwhelming US Cellullar (always will be Comiskey) but I loathe the Cubs so I won’t go to Wrigley though I probably should.
@PrancingUrchin- I’m not a Cubs fan either but you owe it to yourself to see a game at Wrigley if given the chance. The atmoshpere in and out of the park is incredible.
@AstroChuck A park so fine, they had to name it 3 times!
@AstroChuck, I’ve been considering it lately but only if the Red Sox go there for interleague or the good ol’ Crosstown Classic. :)
Now that we’re in game 3 of the NLCS against the Phillies, I’d just like to say that @MissAnthrope obviously spoke a little too soon and judging from the majority of the comments that she posted, she knows little to NOTHING about baseball. Well, there’s still time to jump on the bandwagon if you haven’t done so already. (of course most people who spend their time talking trash about teams that they CLAIM to be fans of, yet barely follow usually just try to rain on everyone’s parade when the team does well.)

Gee, I don’t know. Why do the 2010 World Champion San Francisco Giants suck so bad?
