Myspace mirror photos. That’d suit you perfectly.
Har har.

@DarkScribe I was talking more effects.

@abbydowns DarkScribe I was talking more effects.

In that case if you were give detail about the type of camera, available lenses, and your level of experience it might be possible to make a sensible suggestion. Also, with film many effects require you to have access to a darkroom – mini-labs won’t cut it.

@DarkScribe Well aren’t you a sensible person. Its a Pentax Super Me, and I have your regular lens and a wide angle lens. I just want to learn some stuff to get some cool effects it my pictures.

@abbydowns Do you have a flash with the system? With a flash you can take lots of photos of yourself on the one image in different poses. You move and hold a pose for each flash. You can either use a timer, or a remote.

Do you know how to develop your own film?

abbydowns's avatar

@ShiningToast I am going to a friends house soon and she has her own darkroom. so I will be soon to learn.

ShiningToast's avatar

@abbydowns Once you learn, you can play with exposure times, exposing different parts of the picture differently, etc. and that can make some sweet photos.

abbydowns's avatar

@ShiningToast So as far as cool effects go they come more with developing not shooting?

ShiningToast's avatar

@abbydowns You can do cool affects with shooting, but this is much easier with a D-SLR. You can vary the shutter times on the Pentax, but not much else. It is a pretty bare-bones camera.

And be careful not to piss people off on your first day.

ShiningToast's avatar

@abbydowns What would you call a “cool effect”, by the way?

DarkScribe's avatar

@abbydowns getting lighting and colors like this.

That’s cool? That is simply a poorly set-up and processed shot. It is noisy, the white balance is off.

ShiningToast's avatar

@DarkScribe What do you think, D-SLR or no? I’m betting yes.

@abbydowns I’m pretty sure that was taken with a digital camera.

Your friend doesn’t have a darkroom for no reason, maybe she can help you get the shot you want.

Possibly DSLR but definitely digital.

No exif data other than Photoshop.

The photostream has some film and xxxchrome shots – might be a poor scan. Though some of the “claimed” film shots are showing distinctly digital artifacts. You never know with Flickr.

You can vapour the lens with you warm breath and right away shoot something (a landscap, for example) to get a ‘foggy’ effect.

abbydowns's avatar

@rebbel this is something i was looking for! awesome!

lilikoi's avatar

The photo is really dark. To get that shot, all you have to do is take it, and mess with the color settings in GIMP or Photoshop.

abbydowns's avatar

@ShiningToast as an edit or as a film?

rebbel's avatar

@abbydowns
I’m glad you like it.

abbydowns's avatar

@rebbel I already went out and took some shots trying that. will let you know how those come out! How did they come out for you?

ShiningToast's avatar

@abbydowns Develop your C-41 film in E-6 chemicals.

@abbydowns
I can’t actually remember what they looked like, only that i was surprised by the simplicity of that little trick and the cool effect it had.

Long exposure time to get dramatic effects like this
and this in low light or moving water
You can leave the aperature open for 30 seconds to 30 minutes depending on light and Fstop. Experiment. Have fun.

abbydowns's avatar

@SeventhSense but you definitely need a tripod for all this work! (i do have thankfully)

SeventhSense's avatar

Definitely and more than a little bit of luck.

lilikoi's avatar

Speaking of long exposures, I really like this one.

@lilikoi
Dramatic effect.
