What's a good way to get rid of acne?

Asked by Jeremycw1 (1370points) April 13th, 2010

I have mild acne, and nothing seems to work. I’ve tried some acne treatments you can pick up at the store, and they haven’t worked. I wash my face twice daily and try to keep it clean, but the acne keeps coming back. I’m considering getting a prescription treatment.

What do you do?
Any suggestions?

Thanks for your advice!

Sometimes acne has an internal cause. A lot of times this is the case when you try everything and just can’t get rid of it. So this isn’t internal but make sure you wash your hair regularly and change your pillow cases. Now, internally an example would be a high intake of greasy foods, chocolate, coffee.

You may also try a scrub on top of your regular acne treatments. Like an apricot scrub. It cleans a bit deeper.

maybe you should find out first what is specifically causing the acne

See a dermatologist. Seriously. My daughter had acne, we tried everything. After going to a dermatologist and having him examine her, she was treated for her acne.

There can be many factors as to what is causing your acne, not just food. Hormones, medications, hereditary disposition, exposure to chemicals – many things. If it’s a progressive, ongoing issue, then it’s time to seek medical treatment.

It could be your age, environment, hair(touching your face), diet, hormones or genes. If you’re a teen wait a bit and it may clear on its own.

Just go to the doctor and do as he says.

I know a teenage boy who had amazing results from using tea tree oil soap.

I have been taking zinc pills about 100MG a day every single day and my skin cleared up alot. I also use a face wash twice a day but the zinc really was a HUGE help for me. I highly suggest giving it a try. You can look online at other people who have had success with zinc as well. Don’ t take to much though, it’s bad in high doses.

I use two prescription creams, Eryacne and Retin A. They are quite effective, and have done me a lot of good. I also use Cetaphil as a cleanser, based on the recommendation of my dermatologist.

I tried everything….and i mean EVERYTHING over the years, and this is what has worked for me:

exposed skincare is really great. Give it a two weeks with this stuff and you will notice a massive difference. 100000 times better than proactive.

There is a really good scrub which is well worth the money…if you use it twice a week I guarantee your face will look better (if you leave it on for 5–10min like a mask, it really works wonders).

Try to reduce your sugar intake as much as you can…...

If you’re on any other medications look up the side effects online…some of them cause acne and your doctor wont tell you in some cases.

I have also been on Doxycycline which did help….so yeah, if good skin care and cleaning up your diet fails, a dermatologist is a good idea.

Good luck mate….Acne can be a real bitch.
