This phenomenon is known as buyer’s remorse and you can learn more about it here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buyer's_remorse. It gets studied regularly.
And to answer the question—yes, I’ve felt buyer’s remorse. The person I know who feels it most often, however, is my fiance who sometimes immediately has it after ordering at a restaurant. He often becomes convinced he got the wrong thing.
He usually manages to get the best thing on the menu, though, so don’t feel bad for him.
This happens often with me when buying clothes. Especially shirts and jeans. If they don’t fit me almost perfectly after I bring it home, I will probably only wear it a couple times.
yes i do the same thing with my shirts…
Yes Alot of times… I love to buy clothes. And I cant live without shopping… All the time I buy clothes and when i get home I don’t like it or I think the color dont look right with my skin….
I don’t know why I needed a bear suit.
Since i retired, my wife and i play a lot of bingo. its our hobby, but not when we are losing. so to save money, i bought this electronic bingo game. it operates on batteries and i was actually thrilled to have located it. i thought. “this is going to save us a lot of mony by playing bingo at home”. good thought, if only it had turned out that way.
One night, we decided to give our new Electronic Bingo game its first time. we had our cards, we had our chips to place over the numbers called and anxiously awaited the first number to be called. oh, i forgot to tell you that the numbers are given out randomly by an electronic voice, all built inside the game.
Wife flipped on the switch to our Electronic Bingo Game and pressed the button for the first number to be called. and, here it came: xmvcuofn!!! i looked at my wife and she looked at me….......it was in Spanish! the whole electronic bingo game was in Spanish!!!!!!!
I love the Spanish language, but not in my bingo game. “get your clothes on, we’re taking it back”, i told my wife.
No warning on the box, no inside booklet information to let us know this particular Electronic Bingo Game was in Spanish.
We got our money back and went to play real bingo, instead.
That mail order bride I foolishly purchased a few years back.Turned out “he” was a Bangkok ladyboy.Non returnable no refunds.Ah well you live & learn.
Oh yes. All the time. I feel I’ve gotten better though as I seemed to have developed buyer’s premorse. @lucillelucillelucille made me remember it when I was thinking of buying a green man suit (a la Always Sunny) and I became remorseful even before the purchase so I backed out.
2nd Answer. i use to work a second job handling security for a big department store. this store was kind of like Lowes and handled gardening equipment, especially lawnmowers. i would just shake my head, each time after grass-cutting season, to see people bringing back the purchased lawnmowers and receiving a refund. nothing wrong with the lawnmowers. it was just a person taking advantage of the stores return policy and using it for all it was worth. that store lost so much money, its no wonder it went bankrupct.
@PrancingUrchin A Green Man suit? How could that be a waste? That would be absolutely amazing!
Yes. I bet everyone who has ever bought something has experienced this before.
As I get older, I know better and better what I like, and it is easier for me to not make a mistake. I also like to buy from stores that have a good return policy. Now days, I have such a particular thing in my mind, that it takes forever to find exactly what I’m looking for.
Sometimes I get non-buyer’s-remorse from not buying something that I realize later I really want. lol!
@jeffgoldblumsprivatefacilities, well it wouldn’t be necessarily if it wasn’t $70. I’d be willing to pay about $30–40 and probably be completely satisfied. My only worry would be my professors’ reactions when I wore it to class.
And this is why we have a beautiful device called the Exchange Policy. :D
A designer dress I bought. My husband and I had a hellish fight about it, the price was not clear on the tag when I bought it, it was alot more than I thought and we argued on the way home. I never wore it. It’s still hanging somewhere in my closet
I frequently have buyer’s remorse. I frequently buy stuff off the internet, too, so I end up paying unfortunate sums for shipping fees when I realize I bought something that I don’t need, that was too expensive, that looks terrible on me, that was the result of a poor impulse decision…
Nowadays, if I buy clothing, I always wait about a week before I cut off the tags (unless it’s something innocuous like socks).
Dolby 5.1 sound system. 95% of all movies don’t really make use of it. High-quality stereo is good enough. And my wife’s really mad about the large subwoofer in our living room collecting dust. And all the extra cables.
