If a picture paints a thousand words, what are some your self portrait would say about you?

Asked by ucme (50047points) April 20th, 2010

Whether you have the aptitude to paint or not, if you were to paint a self portrait & step back, what would you imagine the image of you would be saying?Or even what would you say about your efforts?

I have done many self portraits.I have them in ink,pencil,charcoal,and acrylic.Clothed and unclothed.Most as assignments in art school.Some recent ones as ideas for paintings when I have needed a female figure.People have read all different things into them that were so far from what I was thinking at the time and that’s ok.I know exactly what I was thinking when I did them.I would say that they look just like me as I am good at what I do.Damn straight.;)

Hm. I honestly have no idea. I should try it sometime, just to see what happens. Of course, I can’t do it right now because I’m thinking about it… so the result wouldn’t be pure, but I will try it.

@lucillelucillelucille Excellent I think that it…...screeches brakes!! Unc..cc.cc..loth.th..th..ed, an interesting thought ;¬}

Self portraits are a reflection of how we view our own personalities, so it wouldn’t say very nice things about it’s creator.

I think the critique would be mostly positive with a little criticism mixed in. After all, no one is perfect.

lucillelucillelucille's avatar

@ucme-You get to know every detail of your face and body that is for sure.I could pick myself out of a line up.LOL

@Bluefreedom This is true.

“You just look like a person that wouldn’t take shit off anybody. And you have great hair.”

@lucillelucillelucille Do you draw yourself “warts & all” as it were, not that i’m suggesting you have warts…. i’m sure you have wonderful skin…. oh shit what have I said.You’re not tempted to use a little artistic air brushing here & there?

lucillelucillelucille's avatar

@ucme—blushes—:)Artistic license?Nope.I do draw everything I see.Even the “Mom” tattoo.lol

My efforts in painting and drawing are minimal therefore I’d probably mock myself for creating such a disappointing piece. In a perfect world where my artistic abilities are splendid, the image would show me as a person who wears her heart dangling from her neck like noose and is often struggling to keep it from killing her.

Ah the melting clock guy.Seems like Dali likes pussy judging by his erect tache.

Dammit. That old Bread song just lodged itself in my head.

ucme's avatar

@aprilsimnel Lilo Lil I presume?

aprilsimnel's avatar

No, unfortunately. That slow, sappy song from the 1970s by the American band Bread (sorry, soft rock fans, but I really loathe that song). I can’t link to it from anywhere because it’s been removed from the internet by their record label – and you should be grateful.

I think “guarded” is the word I could use for any self-portrait at the moment.

mine would be abstract color and that in itself is me.

Different mood, different self portrait. Just like my handwriting.

PacificToast's avatar

I’m about to do one as an assignment. I’m anxious as to what it may say about my abilities and myself.

@PacificToast enjoy the discoveries!
