The picture of all the cartel gangsters and murdered victims all seem to show them wearing a crucifix.
That would just be because almost everyone in mexico is christian, so regardless if there gangsters they would still probably be christinan
The post Colombian history of South America is inextricably tangled with the marauding Catholic Church. Do some research about the Spanish Conquistadores.
I will, but my question is more regarding day to day life, and some long term things like marriage, but not as much as a historical point of view
Daily life is a pastiche of Catholic and native traditions. But no one wants to do your homework. We are just suggesting places to look. Examine the way holidays are celebrated in Mexico.
Mexican culture is very heavily influenced by catholicism. Like @dpworkin said, a lot of the celebrations in Mexico are based on their religion. Marriage celebrations, QuinceaƱeras, El dia de los muertos, Christmas, and many other festivities in Mexico have a symbolic meaning linked to their religion.
My wife is Mexican and it seems that it’s more than just a religion to her and her family. It’s a way of life. She observes holidays much differently than I did growing up. Christmas for me when i was a kid was all about presents for her it’s all about the day and what it means. She was born and raised in manhattan but her mother is from Mexico and instilled some pretty serious religious principles in her. I think it’s very cool indeed. Our son is learning the history behind the holidays and not just “when do I get presents”.
From what I know, which is pretty limited, the Catholic faith seems to be heavily ingrained in the Mexican culture.
To be honest you could write a whole freakin thesis on this subject
