Have we hit rock bottom in the economy? If not, when? Sooner or much later?

Asked by Jill_E (885points) April 24th, 2010

Just curious if we hit rock bottom last year or so or if not? Do you think soon or much later?

I do have faith once we hit rock bottom, the economy will get better.

If our grandparents survived the 1930s economy then we will.

I am trying not to ruffle feathers or such. I am just curious what people think across the board. I got answers from friends that they think we haven’t hit rock bottom yet and others are not sure if we did or not.

We are in the middle of a sturdy recovery. Maybe you should read the paper once in a while.

I think we’ve stabilized for now. I take the view that we hit rock bottom but we’re not far up from it just yet. When I stop seeing really nice cars, from people who were once able to shop at a regular store without worry, at my local scratch n dent food store- then I’ll say we’re out of it.

Rock bottom is so much worse than most Americans have ever known. Our current economic times are far from rock bottom.

For the stock market, things are looking up. Way up. For the unemployed—there are still a lot of them, and people are working for less money and are given less hours. Things are still very tight for many people. For others, they never really noticed the recession. Are things looking up? I guess that depends where you’re standing.

There are still some tough times ahead. I am hopeful that the worst is past, but remain in a mindset for worse. Hunkering down and trying to avoid the animals that prey on us.

The economy has been shitty lately, but nobody’s standing in line for toilet paper and then getting mugged for it on their way back home…I think rock bottom is a long way away from the current situation.

@Symbeline I agree totally, I just pray it doesnt come to that.

I was just offered a new job today…couldn’t turn it down..another perfect, flexible little gig for the summer, maybe beyond….but I have always had several pots boiling at once.

The key is diversification and creative, entrepreneurish ventures.

Lots of little bubbling pots makes for a stocked freezer. lol

Then again, I’m the sort that would perish in the 9–5 zone.

We’ll be ok for a few years until the effects of our massive debt begin, and the effects of the stimulus package combine to create serious monetary problems. It will be like Greece only worse. For example, California’s public retirements system alone has greater debt that Greece. Ouch!
