Here’s a novel approach (heh heh); A brief synopsis in the form of a news cast. “Two teen-aged, star-crossed lovers found dead in each others arms. The male apparently took poison, the female suffered massive blood loss from a self inflicted chest wound. Film at eleven.”

Twitter format? Episode synopses in 140 characters? Or how about presenting it as a blog written by one of the main characters?

Message in a bottle? Each installment could be written as if it came from another character in a far away place.

Dramatize a scene with a couple of classmates.

Reduce it to, say, sixteen lines of rhyming couplets. Or a limerick. (Note that a limerick absolutely must rhyme and scan perfectly.)

Do it with Peeps. This version of Romeo & Juliet is one of my all-time favorites.

Do a stop-motion animation with Legos.

Do a puppet show with hand puppets.

Depending on the novel and the main character, do it as a TV interview, a deathbed confession, a life review from heaven, a job application, a bedtime story, a fairy tale, a “This Is Your Life” episode, a roast, a three-act opera. A rock song.

Create a newspaper expose’ about the story.
Videotape a talk show interview with the main character. Play both the interviewer and the character.
Create a comic book about the book

Act like the novel is actually a movie or a TV series and you’re interviewing the cast who are playing the characters. Sort of a behind the scenes look into “blah-blah-blah”.
